Re: Roster Cuts This week

No idea but coaches have their reasons and it is not always apparent. Who is the "better" player is a very subjective thing. I was watching a NAHL main camp last August my oldest was in and one of the D on his team was awful, absolutely awful. Could not skate, stumbling every time he transitioned, terrible footwork, just a terrible skater and he made terrible decisions throwing the puck all over the place. Worst D man on the ice. Myself and another guy I know that were watching just kind of looked at each other in disbelief and chuckled a bit. Jokes on us, that kid made the team and our kids did not. Not saying they should have but there were also more deserving players there that I thought should have made the cut but didn't as well. Frankly, still a bit chapped by that. I've seen this same thing over and over again. What is it these coaches see in "that" kid? I got over trying to figure it all out and my life has been better off for it. These people are going to choose who they want to choose, just hope your kid gets the call. It's outside of your control.
Kid was probably a "fighter"

Yeah I even saw that at a USHL camp. Worst D on the ice was a 17 year old foreign player. Did nothing but make mistake after mistake after mistake. Figured the kid had no chance whatsoever of making the team cause he was clueless out there. Definitely needed more time - too young to play at that level. Made the team and spent the entire year playing big minutes for the team all year. Then got a D1 commitment there and does the same thing. Mistake after mistake and turnover after turnover and can barely skate - SOOOOO slow. I will never understand what a coach sees in him.

People have to stop, think, and keep repeating this to find some serenity -
Unless you are in the 2% tagged to be a professional player and getting paid to play, it does not matter one bit, other than ego and bragging, what level you play in college.
You will be working a job when you graduate and paying to play hockey like everyone else.
Weekly mens league games all over North America are filled with former D1, D3, ACHA, and even High School players, all on the same ice and none of them are getting paid.
When you stop chasing you can start enjoying.

It definitely matters when your kid is playing D1 on the top line for free. Saved me $250k. Yes that really matters a lot
Of course it will, your kid is going to age-out of Jr\\\'s, then if he is lucky, be a fourth liner after sitting for two years at his D1 school.
No he is starting D for a D-1 school as a sophomore and will graduate with a masters for free
You really on the D-board flexing about your kid. D1 isn't enough for you? Hope your son doesn't have the same ego as mommy or daddy.
No just correcting the poster that said my kid will just age out of juniors and be a 4th liner somewhere

No ego here at all - just telling the truth that it does matter if you keep playing even if you won't be a pro (which I know my son will not be but he got college for free so to him and to us thats a HUGE deal) . This piece of garbage just dismisses that as useless cause he won't be a pro

Re: Roster Cuts This week

My sons in his first year of Juniors and if he's not competing or doesn't produce I would expect him to be cut. Jr Hockey isn't Youth or Prep Hockey. These kids know their job and if they can't do then they get skipped over. Makes sense to me. I'd hate to see my kid not playing but its up to him now.

Thought the same thing as the OP but you have to realize that even D3 schools want a year or 2 of Juniors now. Kid has to really want it in order to compete for a spot anywhere at this point.
It's ridiculous in my opinion, one of my sons is looking to play ACHA after high school, he called the coach and the coach practically told him unless he played 1-2 years of juniors he needs to be a complete standout or he won't take him.

Cmon. What school ??

Acha coaches have been contacting my kid since his sophomore year of d3 high school telling him to skip juniors and come play club college right away.

Bunch of his ex teammates are playing club right out of high school. And. They were okay hockey players in high school.

I believe this if it's a high level ACHA D1 school, even some upper end ACHA D2. Those teams are club in name only. They operate like a varsity college sport but just don't have the designation in the athletic department.

There is a wide range in ACHA from being a fully budgeted club team that operates like a varsity program to totally student run where a bunch of guys who played hockey throw a team together.

And just to remind folks how good even the best ACHA Club Hockey teams are, arguably one of the top D1 Club Teams recently is UNLV, they had an exhibition vs Denver (NCAA D1), just this past weekend. They stopped counting the score at 10-0, and remember, they are playing everyone on the D1 roster in this game from Denver

What's your point? Do you think players confuse D1 Hockey for Club Hockey? C'mon man! NLV Uni's are Fire! They practice 3 times a week and only lost to the #1 Ranked NCAA Division 1 Team by 10. Not bad for a bunch of kids not good enough to make a college roster.

Re: Roster Cuts This week

URI club team better than many lower level d1 hockey schools

Miami Ohio and Arizona State both lost to Denver 7-1 last year, which is obviously better than 10-0 but not far off, so God forbid a club hockey team loses to the #1 ranked NCAA team with 12 NHL draft picks.

Re: Roster Cuts This week

I said they stopped counting at 10-0, it was more.

Re: Roster Cuts This week

Son cut this week, team wont release his rights? Does this make sense? He has other teams that want him. Is there a way out of this?

Re: Roster Cuts This week

If the other teams really want him they could work out a trade.

When you are cut after the season begins like this for an NCDC team did they offer your son a spot on the Premier team with the sti****tion that now you have to pay or did they say nothing leaving your son in limbo? Why would they want to retain the rights to a player they cut and they did not offer a spot on their Premier team where they'd have to pay. I get trying to force you into a pay to play situation (for them) but if that's not the case, why leave the player in total limbo.

Wouldn't them releasing the player mean they release his rights too??

My son was waived from a USHL team and once he cleared waivers they didn't have his rights anymore. Seems silly for the to be able to release a player and keep his rights!
