Your kid doesn't need his name on a sheet of paper at a tournement. If the kid looks good a scout will talk to the coach after the game.

Yeah, the coaches that are hired to stand behind the bench that weekend that don't know any of the kid names either….

If anyone signs up for any of these tournaments thinking "this is my kid's chance of being discovered," please see the recent thread on delusional parents.

Also see the recent thread about family advisors. In this information age, that's the path for discovery, not some college or low level Juniors scout wandering into a rink and seeing a random tournament game.

You also shouldn't be signing up to play for a team that is that badly coached, BTW. If your kid is good enough that you WANT his name on a roster sheet for the scouts, he should have his pick of tournament teams any given weekend. The best tournament coaches know how the game is played, and can handle that scout very easily. They probably already know each other.

And if your kid isn't good enough to have been invited, then you SHOULDN'T want his name on the roster sheet. You're better off giving him time to develop until he is.

I think you are totally missing the point. The OWNERS of the tournament market it as a where scouts/coaches go to see players - the minimum they should do is print a booklet of rosters for any coaches or scouts that do go.

I was sitting with a few guys one of which owns a prominent program and during a game he asks the group "who is #27" after the kid made a few nice plays? No one knew….since there wasn't a roster. In this case the guy (scout/coach/whatever) had interest in a player but had no info on him. Thus the posts…...

I've seen a situation where a kid forgot his jersey and got a loaner from a lesser player (with the kid's name on it) and the 'scouts' were asking for the wrong player after the game to come out and get measured in bare feet to get his stats entered into the scouts report. The whole 'if he's good they'll find him' is the most stupid & overrated statement in hockey.

BA was famous for never placing the team rosters in programs and sometimes I thought it was either their obvious lack of commitment to any sort of off ice detail or they simply didn't want their players poached from other programs.

Its the lack of off ice detail. Programs are supposed to promote their players and most don't - they just cash their checks.

Then don't sign up. Nobody's putting a gun to your head.

Yeah, you should be able to predict the future and know in advance if the tournament organizers or teams are slackers and only interested in cashing checks.

I Agree, how difficult is it to get a final roster the day before the tournament and upload it to the website and or print out? The Tournament organizers will say it's because the coaches are always late getting the info. Well than take the game sheet from the first game and boom, there is your Roster.

It is lazy and apathetic and exactly why our country is in the shi**er and why a few months ago the idea of Trump as President seemed absurd and now it seems not only likely but promising!

Agree. "I'll hand you the tournament fee check when I see a printed roster" should be every parent's motto.

It should be a nice printed booklet with rosters/schools/etc. for the $20 ripoff charge they get for the gate fee.

They obviously know we will tolerate it because we all stand for it ( Myself included).

Imagine paying $3,000 for a full season team and then have to pay $15 for a .50 cent sticker for your helmet that promotes THEIR PROGRAM!!! Out of principle, i decline!!! I would rather be charged $3,025 and have them throw the sticker in as a parting gift!

All this trouble for maybe 20 kids with a future, even fewer with the potential to earn a single dollar playing hockey. The rest of us are all lining someone's pockets with our hopes and dreams of hockey glory, or to get some twisted version of bragging rights.

Guys, for 99% of us we should be trying to get our kid that moment in HS when he has hundreds of boys and girls screaming and yelling for his team, and the ability to walk the halls with his head held high knowing that he's part of a team that others wish they could make. Those are the things that will stick with him from hockey. That could be prep, catholic, public...wherever your kid fits in. It's up to us to be realistic about where that is, and set our expectations accordingly.

And to add to my point, if you handle things right, your kid should build on this HS experience so that's it's not the best time of his life.

They make you pay extra for the helmet stickers ??? that is hilarious. It is mainly hilarious because that means that they are not part of the mandatory uniform and the parents only buy them so they can have the "pro" stickers and proudly display what organization they play for.

Here is a tip : if your organization is charging you for helmet stickers, or even jerseys and socks in addition to your tuition, then I am willing to bet the focus is on $$$ and not development.

Let me be crystal clear - there isn't one program that focuses on development over $$$. Not one.

They are all about money first! Sure they like to develop kids but that is a distant second to development. The fact that they charge for helmet stickers just shows their arrogance and idiocy! Or maybe it's our idiocy because we still pay. The only programs that put any kid first is the program who's owner has a child in the program. The only kid they care about is their own and then maybe the kids on his team (MAYBE). Even the best coaches (people) are guilty of this, no matter how hard they try to convince you otherwise.

We are a capitalist society and a youth hockey program is like any other business. Finland is more of a socialist society and treat their youth programs as such.

Even USA Hockey, a Non-Profit, has their own agenda. Yes, they want to develop kids but more so want to fund their agenda.

Let me polish up the crystal bit for you and fill you in that there were ZERO (0) scouts at BT Naps so whoever is crying about no rosters don't worry your kid wasn't missed by anyone.
