Re: AYHL

The AYHL is superior to the EHF overall. The almighty myhockeyrankings will show that. There's good, bad and middle of the road teams in both. The older the kids get, the more top heavy the EHF is once the best teams finish poaching the last of the good players from the mediocre teams nearby. This happens to a lesser extent in the AYHL making it more competitive overall. AYHL teams are more spread out geographically, so there's less competition for players and they are drawing from a larger area. With that said, the teams at the top of each league vary by age group. The best 05 team may be in the EHF but there won't be much separation with the best AYHL team or vice versa. It's the middle to the bottom teams that make the AYHL more competitive overall.

MHR is a joke. Sorry your kid didn't make the. EHF!

An EHF parent saying the MHR is a joke? Your entire league boasts those stats at every turn to justify your existence. Also do you know where most of the team from the AYHL are? None of those kids would be trying out for an EHF team anyway so figure it out before you make your self look like a total loser. But then again this is the Dboard and brains are not required.

Re: AYHL

AYHL has too many teams and is watered down. EHF is a smaller league and has been able to maintain a higher quality overall.

I may be wrong but I think it is the other way around. AYHL has a larger foot print or at least fewer teams per capita ( incl competing leagues).

Either way, probably two of the best leagues in the country.

Re: AYHL

The entire Atlantic District has 36k registered players. Mass has 49k according to USAH.

Mass has far more teams to choose from ( incl southern NH )

Re: AYHL

49k registered players in Mass, 7 EHF programs. 19k registered players in NJ, 7 AYHL programs.

lets not kid ourselves... 15 EHF Clubs, 16 E9/BHL Clubs, probably another 6 MASS Premier teams. Vally league teams, SSC , Cape League, SNEHC. Lets not kid yourselves and think 49K kids are dying to be in the EHF because its just not true.

Re: AYHL

There are almost as many Tier 2 teams down south too. Look at how many NJ Colonials teams there are for each year. They have a similar system, but I would agree less "robust".

Maybe more per capita population, but per capita hockey players it might be the same or maybe edge EHF. But you are right both high quality leagues.

I think AYHL has a top and bottom division, so that you get more games vs your division with teams closer to your skill level, but don't lose the opportunity to play each team at least once or twice, which is a nice model.
