Hockey dad
I you two are idiots, if you don't like it. Don't waste your time writing on the topic ! What dolts!

I'll bite. Why a Wizards parent?

Re: Pick the top.....

Really, I don't frequent this site often. Ok. I'll admit I enjoy reading the occasional drama I come upon, but sometimes its so apparent that kids hockey can consume some people. It's unfortunate that these kids are the one that are often done with hockey before they even learn to check because they are over skated over pressured and the game is no longer fun for them. A parent who has nothing better to do than worry about the best 8-11 year old records had no idea what it's all about. Good luck to your kid sir

Your missing the point. lets state the obvious. The reason this Dboard exists is to talk about hockey. competitive hockey starts at 8/9 and therefore people will have topics that concern their and others 8/9 year olds. Its ok to talk about it because it exists. The problem we have are the losers who like to insult people because they think their are tough behind the keyboard or People like you probably give their kids trophys for thinking about doing anything. If you dont care about the topic then here is the solution, Don't read it and dont post. Move on with your life and enjoy what you like instead criticizing people doing what they like.

"competitive hockey starts at 8/9"

And that's the problem. It really doesn't. Sure they keep score, but it's not "competitive hockey" at that age, and winning shouldn't be the primary focus.

I'm really not missing the point. I don't believe everyone is a winner. I also don't care if my 10 year old is on a winning team, as long as it's a competitive team and he is getting better. I fully grasp kids get cut at 7 in this league and if your on the 3rd line you need to start working your A$$ off if you want to move up lines. But I also know where this will most likely take the better players, of ...High School and no further. And thanks OK> Because the chances of your kid going further than that is not high. I also, an older child, have seen how many drop out every year. So, I am not missing the point. The point is to be competitive and encourage your kid to do the best they can, hard work pays off, be a good team player, respect other players and coaches and more importantly, play the game for the love of it!

Yes you are. The op was asking who the top teams are. That's all. Not some soliloquy about fairness and getting better and hard work and who is going to play where is 7 years. Every hockey parent knows these points because its beat to death by people like you. Lighten up a little. The Guy was just asking opinions on teams because right now he was trying to have some fun and talk about hockey.

Don't disagree with poster's "soliloquy." Some of these parents have no life and worry about how well a 7 team of 7 year olds are going to do? I guess the OP doesn't have much going

What gets beaten to death are these endless back-and-forths between PARENTS of whose team is better than whose. The parent care far more about win-loss records and MHR rankings that the kids do.

Parents should be asking which teams are best at developing their kids, and what makes that so? I'd even settle for a discussion about who the top coaches are, and why.

Nope. It's always about which team is better, and that usually leads down the rathole of actually criticizing individual players. Individual 9/10 year old players.

Pathetic.

Maybe we are tired of hearing that "its all about development" crap. Yeah people who throw that one out there are the parents on the teams that always lose. Why are these kids playing then? why not just practice 5 days a week. Who cares about the games. We should scrap these leagues all together and have big jam sessions with cones and music and shooter tutors. We should hand out medals every time they take a stride to ensure happy feelings. .00001% might play some form of professional hockey or play D1 college so now is the time for wins and losses. they need to learn the joy and work ethic it takes to win. they also need to take some bumps and learn how to lose with dignity and class and get those pits in their stomach so they never want to feel that way again. The week ones will quit and play soccer or pokemon and the strong ones will be left to play good competitive hockey and work for a shot at a varsity spot in HS or even collage.

And when he ISN'T 9 and actually starts thinking for himself he is going to want to make his HS Varsity team. Upward of 75% of the kids that play youth hockey quit because the teams they played on when they were 9 - 12 didn't focus enough on development. So they DO quit and play Pokemon, because they can't skate well enough to play at the HS Varsity level.

So, keep thinking that winning teaches hockey.

so your saying that only the competitive teams and the teams that lose a lot produce this 25% that make the varsity teams? The winning teams dont develop kids? There is some sound logic for you.

Wow, didn't realize I had to dumb this down so much.

Of course teams that focus on development and are well coached will win more than their share of games. Chances are, a lot more. First, parents that are on those teams see that their kid is improving and having ummm, fun. So they don't leave. Then, other parents hear by word of mouth, and try to get their kids on that team, or in that program.

But, that wasn't the focus of the OP. What makes the original question "dumb" is that there are already 217 threads since the start of the season alone on which team/league/pre-season tournament is "best." Then that "ready, go" thing underscored for me that this guy just loves to see adults argue about 9 year olds like, well, 9 year olds.

A great example is, someone called out a 10/11 year old kid last week as preventing the team from winning. What adult does that?

Then that kid's team went out and won a game against a quality opponent this weekend. Is he now a better player on Monday than he was on Friday because the team won?

Re: Pick the top.....

here's the deal. no surprise - it is a balance. winning is important to the extent that the kids have fun. winning is fun. how many losers do you see with a smile on their face? it sucks to see 8/9/10 years old lose 90% of there games and cry. to much adversity hurts development. at the same time, there is very little to learn from winning 90% of the games. not enough adversity and you will not grow the compete level. mistakes that are not taxed will continue until you are told that you are benched or worse, cut.

development happens when there is reasonable success and obstacles over- come. having fun and growing the passion are a necessity to get kids to the next level from mites on up to NHL. EHF or E9 does not matter. it is more important to find a coach who understands this balance, teaches the game, puts kids in a position to succeed so the collective group can win games which creates a positive feedback loop. if the kid has a smile on his face, shows up committed to work hard and has reasonable success then passion will grow - true development!

And, if 8/9/10 year olds are crying about losing a random hockey game, then the team is very poorly coached and the parents need to start to establish a greater level of balance in their kids' lives.

from what I remember, all it took was a ring pop to have the kids right back to being kids. They really don't care about losing at that age. More likely it's a reflection of all the couldas and shouldas they will have to encounter in the car on the ride home.

So all those clutch wins in squirt hockey helped you how? Certainly didn't help you learn to spell.

Re: Pick the top.....

if as a kid, you win all your elite youth hockey games, you are better than everyone else in the world and it must be true because your parents told you so.

Re: Pick the top.....

So is anyone going to answer the question??????

no the Dboard has voted and its a stupid question. You all pay a ton of money for "development" not wins and losses so who cares who is on top.

Right! We know the answer to the answer to that is NO. Because being on a winning team does not mean your kid is any good. How many of those "winning teams" have 3rd liners that aren't even going to make the HS team? The whole reason that my point was...being on a winning team isn't the end all be all. I want my kid on a team that is competitive, he gets play time and he gets better. Stop focusing on who's winning at 9. Your HS coach isn't

So your saying 3rd liners on a "competitive" team are better off somehow?
