Come on list guy, what do you have to say?

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

TG making its move! Hey is it raining out today or is that just tears from all the BJE parents?

Good one, Mike. Get to the doctors in 4 hours if it doesn't go away.

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

We don't want him back! His kid will be playing defense by end of year. Classic case of dad more worried about team than his own kid.

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

"His kid will be playing defense by end of year."

I don't understand...you don't think the kid can play but how is it he would be able to handle defense?

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

Please refrain pointing out kids on this thread. These boys and girls are 11. You sound pathetic. Anyone can do that.

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

Little short man can now start crying. Not Mike. He's a good guy. E9 most annoying dad

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

Good point of conversation and I will address. First, I have always said this is just one person's opinion. Second, I think some scores have not been entered into system. That said, here is difference:

BJE IHC
MMF BJE
IHC MMF
Caps Caps
Pats TG
TG Ter
Ter VJW
Rang Pats
VJW SSK
Ave Ave

Hope I have that right. Again, I believe the E9 might be missing some scores that would adjust that a bit. So I believe I picked the top 4 teams, maybe in a slightly different order, but pretty close. If this is about who is #1 BJE vs. IHC, than it could go either way and to be honest the games this weekend will go a long way. Remember MHR is built on algorithms that I don't necessary agree with. Goal differential is a big part of their equation. You can win 3 to 0 and still loose points. Not sure I agree with that.

HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS:::::::

Out of the top 25 in the country 11 teams come from this area!!! Almost HALF the teams. I know we get caught up which league is better or what teams are better, but come on we live in a great hockey area.

Good luck this weekend!!

Have fun with your kids.

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

List Guy is correct. Go look at My Hockey Rankings in the 07 division. Then go under "math" tab. IHC beat a team 19 -2 and lost points for win. First, IHC shame on you that is terrible, but second it shows it doesn't always work right.

and that game distorts the ranking because there is not enough games to smooth that distortion out...

Come on list guy, what do you have to say?

Goal differential on MHR is capped at 7, so a 19-2 win is as good (or bad) as a 9-2 win, if you go by the MHR formula. So ratings obsessed coaches, tell the kids to ease off the gas when the differential reaches 7.

Let me ask you a question: if the Islanders are playing a team that they are 17 goals better than, should it help or hurt their ranking? Playing a weak schedule hurts your MHR, but why shouldn't it?

The system is not perfect, but it usually gets you in the ballpark so that you don't sign up for a tournament with teams that are much better (or much worse) than yours. Nifty tool that can prevent you from wasting a lot of time and money, if you think of it that way. MHR certainly wasn't built to distinguish between the 10th and 15th best team in the country, only to tell you that those two teams would likely play a close game.

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

Its a great point and it is why the E9 teams have a hard time moving up list. The strength of schedule becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and likewise in the EHF. That is why it is a great tool, but not the only tool.

Thanks for insight

Nothing like head-to-head competition to determine the better team. As you say, results move the list. Which is why it's too bad that there is not more inter-league play in New England. MHR gets you in the ballpark, but the lack of inter-league play makes comparisons between the two leagues more difficult than it should be.

Again. Sorry your kid can't crack an EHF roster. EHF = Superior. Check the implosion list for possible landing spots.

Re: 05 MHR vs List Guy

Yeah so a kid can potentially find a spot on a team 35 miles from home. . . .

OK JB, so you're telling me these should be my criteria for selecting where my kid should play youth hockey:

1. EHF
2. Coaching, organizational philosophy, skills, location, travel, quality of families, quality of kids.

Makes sense. Thanks for your insight.

No problem. Don't complain about rankings and have fun with your organizational philosophy. Rankings shouldn't matter. Playing better competition makes you better (if you have it in you). If not, play town like your kid. Close to home and surrounded by "quality people". And maybe he can score against the goalie that's never played before.

You dont want your kid on implosion teams! Parents suck, coaches suck, kids are spoiled, back biting everywhere, jealousy, cant meet expectations, win games but really lose, just not alot of fun...a lot of drama though! Better off having Little Johnny sit in front of the tv and watch Days of Our Lives or Young and the Restless! It would be the same drama! Good kuck this weekend! I am sure you will be miserable...
