Re: Relocating to Bedford-Billerica area...

Anon
We are relocating to the Boston area and my boy is a Squirt Major AAA player in St Louis. He'll be a Pee Wee minor in the spring and we are looking for a solid program with a track record of development. Not worried about wins and losses, just solid coaching (preferably no dad coaches). Looking to buy/rent in Bedford-Billerica are. Any program info/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance-

While I would agree that geographically those three programs make sense, if you are willing to drive a little farther, the 06 Boston Junior Eagles have one of the best coaching staffs you could ask for. While both are fathers of players on the team, both played hockey at a high level. Head coach played at Princeton and then in the NHL until forced to retire due to concussions. He is successful professionally and as a family man.

Assistant coach played at UNH then I think 4 years in the minors before he retired.

High level players do not always make the best coaches, but in this case these guys do.

Head coach works so hard at development. He teams usually start out middle of the pack and just get better and better. I think he has won 2 championships in 4 years. However, he still focuses on the players and getting them better.

It will definitely be a drive from where you are looking, but that is where I would want my son to play if he were an 06.

Can't believe you fools took the bite on this one. OP was looking for you to bash the program that has a dog on the shirt

Re: Relocating to Bedford-Billerica area...

In terms of a relo - how does the Lexington-Bedford area compare to the Sharon area?
Quality of life/traffic/schools, etc?

Seems that there are solid hockey programs both to the North and the South, so that's less of a concern.

Outside of those areas, are there any other communities that are worth considering, factoring in the criteria above + decent proximity to tech jobs and good Bantam Major hockey?

This isn't the place to ask about job prospects. Many on here can't hold down a job.

I'm from north of Boston, so biased. I honestly don't know what Sharon is like, but Lexington-Bedford is an expensive place to live, precisely because it is right in the middle of so many job opportunities and not out of the question to commute to Boston, and home to very good school systems. If you can afford it, you can't go wrong there. And the Wizards are a solid program, run by Harvard guys, and pretty dedicated to the ADM. Bonus if you also have a daughter that plays, as they have a very good girls program as well.

North of the City or Metro West. Stay away from the South Shore!!

Re: Relocating to Bedford-Billerica area...

I was just asking a similar question. So Wizards program is pretty good then? How does ADM differ from a conventional, for the lack of a better term, development system for levels starting with suirt? I thought, ADM was strictly applicable to mite level?

Re: Relocating to Bedford-Billerica area...

Why would you attempt at selling the Wizards program. 06 and 05 teams both Elite and Select are a total joke.

Re: Relocating to Bedford-Billerica area...

Wizards have always been a good organization, focused more on skill development at the younger ages versus wins. However their teams do eventually start to win and many of their older players do well on festival teams, preps etc.

Wizards seem to chase wins a little less than other organizations, and seem to focus more on skills and ADM-type practice plans. Plus, The Edge is a good place to get exposure to prep school scouts because, you know, the demographics are favorable for that route. There's a different school in there for an event every week it seems, and strong ties to prep schools in upper management and coaching staffs.

Yeah with all of the jobs coming to the Seaport (like GE / numerous biotechs / financial / Fidelity...) why would you want an easy commute into South Station or Rowes Wharf? Not to mention some of the better hockey programs, high school programs and full season Jr. teams???

You're right, "Stay away from the South Shore!!"

South Shore has the worst commute to Boston, you know that. Don't play stupid.

GE moved 175 jobs. Hardly changes the landscape. You've fallen for the Boston media spindoctors.

South Shore has traffic every day of the week. Including Sundays. Can't take a boat to the rink.
