Re: High School Rosters

I like the C.C. coaches that coach 6th-7th & 8th grade hockey so they can scout kids and recruit them. Tell me how many publics to that! Oh wait, they would have to get the parents to move to their district....nevermind.

Dont hate the playa, hate the game! or move.

Re: High School Rosters

I think the MIAA doesn't care if kids & parents see the charade for what it is and they will just keep moving in the same direction. Kids & parents see it and move on to Junior hockey or Prep hockey and meanwhile the MIAA and Mass Hockey post these bogus stories about how important it is to stay at your school and play high school hockey....as they create every reason for kids at a top public or a good C.C. school to move on.

MIAA could care less about anything except money coming in. As long they keep getting their salaries and the member schools don't complain, then they don't care. Only reason they care about kids leaving and going to Juniors or Prep is because public and the more school teams that fold because of lack of numbers, the less money they get. But as long as the schools keep putting together teams, no matter how watered down they are, they will still get the money.

Re: High School Rosters

Yep, Old SM!!! Do these parents think he is a High school Coach for life.
Things do change folks. If you moved of took your son out of a good school for this guy to be his HS coach. Shame on you!

What would be a great exercise is if you took the local "high end" hockey schools and see what freshmen made the varsity. It should be a combination of prep schools and maybe catholic conference schools. Then see what programs they came from. Might be enlightening.

I would imagine that would be a small sample and would show a lot.

SJP Varsity: 1 Freshman from Warriors U14 Full, 2 from Islanders U14 / Warriors U16
CC Varsity: 1 Freshman from Riverhawks U14
AP Varsity: 1 8th grader from Warriors (03 Elite), 1 Freshman from Warriors U14 1/2
MC Varsity: 3 Freshmen from Islanders U14
Reading Varsity: 1 Freshman From Islanders U14
Woburn HS: 1 Freshman from Islanders U14 / 1 Freshman from Warriors U14 full

That is all I know

Re: High School Rosters

How much sens does it make to put a 5'4" 140lb 2002 on the ice against a 6' 190lb senior? I don't care how fast you are...that is a recipe for disaster

Re: High School Rosters

I agree with you. Especially for defensemen; not many freshmen or a sophomore D-1 / C.C. defensemen are ready because it's easy to get exposed. Especially if you're undersized (just ask Tory Krug!).

Who said they were 5'4"? Does it not stand to reason that these freshmen are early bloomers and nearly equivalent in size to the older players?

Re: High School Rosters

How many of the Islander kids played there prior to U14?

All of them.

One since mite minor. His brother's jersey is in the rafters.

Re: High School Rosters

Not true.

Re: High School Rosters

What would be more revealing is where they played mite, squirt and pee wee hockey.
Those 6 years of development are far more interesting than the last few before high school. That's where the foundation is laid, period.

Re: High School Rosters

You're kidding, right? Mite & Squirt years playing on town B teams is interesting to you?

Re: High School Rosters

Warriors seem to be very well represented.

Warriors seem to be very well represented.

True, but the poster happened to pick schools that were all in the VJW geography. I'm sure there's a similar story to tell in other parts of the state.

Re: High School Rosters

Heard an 8th grader made St Marys also...

Valid. I picked schools and programs where my kids play and others within that proximity where I know parents of players and my kids know other kids.

I am not some nut that hangs out at tryouts and knows the rosters of every youth program.

That's what I figured. If you knew this info for every school in the state you'd probably be on a watch list somewhere. Thanks for the info.

Re: High School Rosters

I guess my point was that we all get hung up on leagues versus programs. At the 04 level and older you should really be looking at where you want to go to high school and where that coach has ties.

Right or wrong, that is how it works.
