Why is this board so negative? I've been on a lot of message boards and the hate and venom that comes across is unbelievable. People come here asking legitimate questions and they get destroyed. "this program sucks." "this place is a money grab." "benders everywhere." "If you aren't in the EHF then you suck."
Hockey is not an easy sport to figure out how to navigate and I just think the behavior here is just sad.
flame on I guess...
If you think it's bad now, you should have been on the old board, this ain't nothing! Personally, I look at most of the responses as comic relief & don't take it seriously. If those responses frustrate you, I understand and suggest you find a friend or two that's been through it before and lean on them for advice vs coming on here. I do try and add serious responses to questions if I think I can add value, like this post. I do wonder though, how many people post real questions vs. post questions just to get folks saying "this org sucks" to support their own agenda?
In closing, lighten up a bit, don't take the flame responses to seriously, and you will find the dboard can be an enjoyable experience. If you look I think you will see there are usually a few decent bits of advice in between the "my Elite team can beat your Elite team up" responses so the dboard has value beyond making me laugh.
"this org sucks" to support their own agenda?
It has gotten almost laughable where you see the same 4-5 guys trolling their hearts out to the point where you see right through their agenda.
thank you. I read a post a couple of weeks ago that kind of put it into perspective I guess..."all roads end in the beer league" and except for all but .5% of hockey playing kids in Massachusetts, it's true.
and don't forget - sorry your kid got, is about to and will be cut...
Its not the board, and I have said it numerous times. It is our society, and what is posted here are the same things being said in hushed tones and whispers around the rinks, or texts between a select few or over beers at team gatherings.
Most of what is never said face to face and the blanket of anonymity allows it to seem like it is isolated to the DBoard !
Jealously, insecurity and lack of talent...
The youth system, with all of these "AAA" clubs, creates a false sense to many people that their kid has a chance. They chase after that chance with $3000 tuition, excessive travel, $1500 skills, 12 months of the year. Then inevitably they all realize that their kid is just like all the other kids, and the chase is/was all unnecessary, and some guy who implicitly promised them a college commit on their website is getting rich off of their dream.
Maybe they've skated alongside a kid that really has the talent and work ethic, that is actually on the road to success, and they wonder why that kid gets preferential treatment by the coach, not realizing the kid is stickhandling and shooting in the basement all day while their kid is trolling Snapchat with his buddies. Most kids don't want to put in the work required to reach the goals their parents set for them, or more likely simply don't have the talent.
So it's the fault of the owners for aggressive marketing, but more blame goes to the parents who cannot set realistic expectations for their kids and just enjoy watching them compete in a game that they love and can continue playing, in some capacity, for life.
It changes nothing. These players are not athletes but freaks.
