The youth system, with all of these "AAA" clubs, creates a false sense to many people that their kid has a chance. They chase after that chance with $3000 tuition, excessive travel, $1500 skills, 12 months of the year. Then inevitably they all realize that their kid is just like all the other kids, and the chase is/was all unnecessary, and some guy who implicitly promised them a college commit on their website is getting rich off of their dream.
Maybe they've skated alongside a kid that really has the talent and work ethic, that is actually on the road to success, and they wonder why that kid gets preferential treatment by the coach, not realizing the kid is stickhandling and shooting in the basement all day while their kid is trolling Snapchat with his buddies. Most kids don't want to put in the work required to reach the goals their parents set for them, or more likely simply don't have the talent.
So it's the fault of the owners for aggressive marketing, but more blame goes to the parents who cannot set realistic expectations for their kids and just enjoy watching them compete in a game that they love and can continue playing, in some capacity, for life.
I would add that parents are delusional in that they ignore youth hockey isn't really a sport in that only the economic elites can afford to participate.
Don't the parents find it odd that there are virtually no African-American children participate in the sport?
And shouldn't parents find it weird that 90% of the "elite athletes" playing youth hockey can't do one single pull-.up?
There is no doubt that these rink owners are the modern day PT Barnums blowing smoke up your a$$ about your kid's abilities and potential but you the parents are the suckers.
Why is this board so negative? I've been on a lot of message boards and the hate and venom that comes across is unbelievable. People come here asking legitimate questions and they get destroyed. "this program sucks." "this place is a money grab." "benders everywhere." "If you aren't in the EHF then you suck."
Hockey is not an easy sport to figure out how to navigate and I just think the behavior here is just sad.
flame on I guess...
Because parents are jealous and vindictive and are constantly worried their kid isn't at the best program on the best team playing first line snd that may ruin their path to that D1 college before heading to the pros 😄 Your welcome!
