If you are in this situation, you must likely put yourself there. This time of year is only dramatic for teams with parents who think their kids are better than they are.
The kids are still only 13-14, get some perspective people.
There are are tons of options for U14, find one and move on.

Re: U14

Update: Now I see people are skipping Bantam Major all together and going right to U16? Hope Trump doesn't cancel your health insurance because your kid is going to need it! Our oldest played up but he was 6 Feet tall and about 155lbs and he still got killed, every game, it took a huge toll on his body. Now we have applications from 13/14 year old 100lb kids coming in who can barely compete at the level they are at now. OK, you asked for it.

100% agree - plenty of options. If you're not happy where you are/have been, move - no one has a lock on u14 hockey, so don't listen to any coaches or orgs that tell you you're better off staying if you really don't want to be there.

Bottom line, do what will make your player happy and continue to enjoy hockey - that's all that matters.

everyone is spot on that the U14 is a mess of a year. It is the major downside to USAH going with strict birth years, not school year, and with parents insisting that their johnny freshman plays varsity and rides the pine.

My kid's U14 years were fine, no issues. Played full season both years, everyone else did, too. Lost a couple of kids to JV the first year (such a waste) and one kid to a bad Varsity team the second. No big deal, certainly not a "mess of a year."

Know lots of other kids whose U14 years were fine as well. I guess it depends on the quality of the program or, in the words of BTO, "if you get in with the right bunch of fellows."
