My town had a series of exceptional coaches with D1 and Pro experience so at the younger levels the individual "coaching" was actually better than the EHF Elite program he played in. The problem was that when HS hockey started the town youth ice time dried up and he was lucky to get 2 practices in a week. Usually it was 1 practice a week in addition to a game. Having the scheduled weekly ice time of the EHF team was a big advantage and we did it for 2 years before going exclusively with the EHF team. We had good luck with not too many schedule conflicts but others doing the same thing seemed to have a ton of them so your mileage may very.
