More importantly, they did nothing about this same 05 tier 1 flames team and the 06 elite flames team both using the same illegal player, who was rostered on both teams for well beyond 15 games and the roster lock deadline in December! If they follow precedence both teams should forfeit all games that this player played in, including playoff games, and both coaches should be suspended.

So this was the 06 elite goalie who played up for the 05 tier 1 MMF team last season? What is Jack Sweeney's rule on this one?

Yes. He played over 15 games for both teams, therefore rendering him an illegal player, as he was rostered on both teams at the same time, completely in violation of the EHF rules. Both coaches knew this, the Flames knew this and still allowed the player to play in season and playoff games. Precedent has been set with the EHF making the team forfeit games in this weekend's parity tourney. There is no ruling, it was swept under the rug, why, because it was the flames violating the rule, and they tell the EHF what to do. This is very easily proven, check the gamesheets from both teams from the entire season.

Sadly, it's all true. HC has a lot of characteristics that are, let's say, less-than-desirable. Aside from what's already been mentioned on this D-board (again, from what I've read, is all true), he is not a hockey guy. He's a former tow-truck driver, who knows the only reason he coaches is to keep his kid on the team. Practices were ineffective at best. He didn't teach the kids anything. No schemes at all (forechecking, neutral zone, defensive zone, nothing).

Worse, he coaches out of fear (except for his own kid, of course). Players frequently left the rink in tears. HC lied to me and to other families on the team about a variety of things. He violated so many of USA Hockey rules, it's ridiculous. There are also a few things that I can't mention because that would likely disclose my identity, and I'm not interested in ending up in anyone's cross-hairs.

All this information was brought to the Flames attention, along with a request to remove HC. HC should have been removed, however Wes/Larue did nothing about it. And the families left because of it. One parent even gave HC a graceful way to exit...coach the flames team in the white division, which would have better suited HC's son. But HC isn't going anywhere. I feel bad for the players who stayed with the team.

For HC and Wes/Larue to blackball two kids from playing for a team in the white division is not a sound business decision. That is, if the flames are successful in blocking those two kids from playing at another organization, that doesn't keep the money flowing. Those kids will not return to the flames. Moreover, the Huskies are not a real threat to the flames, at that level anyway.

In fact, this is the opposite of a sound business decision. This is an ego play...A dick-measuring contest. And it makes the flames look like a bully. Ultimately, that is not good for business. I'm sure they'll continue to draw people in, as they are a huge organization, and most people don't know any better. But anyone who hears about this incident is certainly going to think twice about joining the flames.

A smart decision is to work it out between the organizations. That's what most organizations do. Let the kids play, and avoid the bad press. But hey, what do I know. These are good kids, and good families, and for the flames to blackball them in this fashion is disgraceful.

Personally, I hope this story reaches the entire organization, and more people leave.

The fact that Tier 1 players need to be "released" after completing a season and wanting to play elsewhere tells you all you need to know about the FED.

I don't know if the claim about the 05 MMF coach is true but if it is, that's troubling. Sexual activity and 11 year olds don't mix well in any court.

Here is the real question all us outsiders are wondering. Was the mom hot and was there more than one.

What normal outsiders actually wonder is how this type of thing impacts a kid for the rest of his life and tears families apart. It's more than a bit of the old in out in out to check the meter I'm afraid.

What!? We never heard about any of this at tryouts. Are you talking about the head coach? Shocking! What the heck.

If you don't question the all mighty CP and are ok with him having severe control issues, being an ego-maniac and total narcissist...things will be fine. Don't question his lack of hockey knowledge (highest level played goalie on men's league), his affair with a team mom (poor husband has had no idea for 2 seasons), his bff/assistant coach who is never sober, the fact that neither of them can pass a CORI check you will have a great season! Oh and if you can look past the fact that his kid is not cut out for this level. Just be prepared that if your child is on ice same time as his kid or his lover's kid, your child will be called out and blamed for whatever went wrong that shift. It is a great environment that he creates and shame on the MMF for allowing it to continue for a 3rd season. CP, LR and WT are horrible people. Good luck and best wishes for a "fun" season

I'll tell you the impact. It's terrible. Kids have a pretty simple view of the situation, they just want to play hockey and have fun with their friends. So they get sad when they are told that they are better off playing for another team. But if they stuck around for another season, as the season would unfold, they would start to fear the coach (again), and they would get frustrated with his better-suited-for-town-hockey kid (this was confirmed by the head coach's soon to be ex-wife at almost every game, saying "He doesn't belong on the ice"). As an aside, the coach's kid singlehandedly lost the JWK tournament for the team. Opponents skated around him like he was standing skill and scored 75% of the goals against the team while he was on the ice.

The parents, of course, have a different perspective, and have access to more information. The parents who decided to leave all reached a tipping point somewhere along the road. For some, the tipping point was discovering that the coach was riding the hobby horse with one of the moms on the team. Those parents I'm sure started to question whether he was favoring that mom's kid, and/or whether to tell the mom's husband. For other parents, it was when they saw their kid crying about how the coach yelled at them, and hearing what the head coach said to them to make them cry. For other parents, it was knowing that several teammates were leaving for other teams. For other parents, it was getting to the end of the rope with the head coach's lame practices, the head coach's lies, and the head coach splitting time with coaching the white team (which he did for financial reasons, as he has two boys, and he gets free tuition by being a head coach). For some parents, it's a combination of these reasons. But whatever the reason(s), the parents are trying to make the best decision for their own kid, and it's no coincidence that over half the team made the same decision.

Nobody wants to stick around for another season of the coach and all the drama, and knowing the team's skill level would drop significantly. The team finished last year in the league finals, which is a good result. But I bet if you asked the kids privately how they viewed last year, you'd get mostly negative responses. And with the talent that is now remaining on that team, that team would not even make the black bracket if they had to play in the parity rounds. What kid would want to stick around for that? Also, what parent would pay close to $3k to knowingly put their kid in that situation?

The situation became unworkable, unfortunately, and nobody should be expected to leave their kid in a situation like that. So while the negative impact on the kid due to leaving his friends, it is far outweighed by avoiding the inevitable negative experience called "next year" and by joining the much more positive situations available to the outgoing players. For most parents, it's a no-brainer.

If anyone, people should look to the flames organization because they could have avoided this whole situation by removing the head coach when they were asked to do so by the parents. But they didn't, they chose to leave the head coach at the helm, and this is the fallout. They had the information, they just made the wrong decision. They shouldn't be holding players hostage for simply leaving an unhealthy situation, and looking for a healthy one.

What an incredible story. Why would the flames want to bring this much attention to their known problems? This is truly worthy of a Boston Globe article about youth hockey in Mass. How about "Money or The Kids - What one local hockey club will do to keep a profit". Print it.

Not the first time LR has blocked kids/families from pursuing a better opportunity, and it won't be the last. The only consolation is that his own team is a complete mess, which must break his heart.

Many of the flames teams are a complete mess. Yes, LR's 04 team, the aforementioned 05 Tier 1 team, 06 tier 1 team, the 04 tier 1 team. They are not the only game in town anymore, there are many, many more, better options now for quality coaching and quality ownership. How many championships did they win this season, with what 25+ teams that they field? If I had to guess, maybe 3? 1 of which was the 06 elite team that was mentioned earlier, that was using an illegal player.

Two more sheets on the way though, so the money keeps flowing. Hey fed4life guy, keep promoting because you know they are all about developing your kid, right? They are playing you, but you keep pushing their message.
