Mid Fairfield Jr Rangers

I’ve got some questions about MFF. I’m new here so don’t know the history, and searching this site sucks.

Why does MFF play in the EHF? They’re less than 1 hour from NYC. Why would you want to drive 3 hours on weekend to play a game in Boston? Is there not a comparable league in the NYC metro area? The 08 team and others (based on scores I’ve looked at) seem to be much better than the other teams. What’s going on down there that they’re that dominate?

Sorry that you lost to them.

Re: Mid Fairfield Jr Rangers

There’s no abundance of youth hockey teams in the heavily populated NYC metro area and Fairfield County, CT. Take a population larger than metro Boston and place one elite level program in it, you’ll get these results. Boston meanwhile has several programs. So the talent gets distributed. No magic formula.

Leagues don't matter!

Re: Mid Fairfield Jr Rangers

MFF success is no secret - they are in a very wealthy area and essentially the only elite program in the area so they can pull from a wide base. They also run a good program on top of that.

The issue with other EHF teams is they divide up their players among 6-7 teams covering the same size area that MFF pulls from. No secret why MFF teams are typically in the top 1-2 at every age level.

It's actually a bigger point to make when you consider that the NY metro population is three times bigger than Boston metro. Even if you want to take north Jersey out of the mix, you're still talking about twice the population of metro Boston going to 1 program -- vs. half the population of NY split among a half-dozen programs that routinely compete well at the top level.

Ok ladies, let's just say that the beantown boys need to up their effort/skills.

Hitting and growth spurts. The game changes a lot by the U14 age group.

Re: Mid Fairfield Jr Rangers

MFF success is 100% attributed to the fact they pull in 3-4 players each year from over 100 miles away from their rink. No other team in the New England does this nor should they. Most EHF teams draw from a 20 mile radius of their rink. If they were to go out and pick up a few kids outside their territory they too would be a top 5 team.

MFF is more concerned about their rankings then developing their own players.

Re: Mid Fairfield Jr Rangers

What is up with Boston hockey at 2004 level... top ranked team #23 IHC??

They actually do it properly....there should not be all these teams within a golf shot of each other. They only reason there are so many is because people just want to make money. All the teams are completely watered down and a complete joke. Give me the days of the PICS and SS Kings only....if you can't make one of those 2 teams your a town player all day long...

Properly? Yes, driving 3 hours every weekend for games is the proper way to do it. I'm sure you're elluding to the fact that elite hockey is watered down. Well, yes indeed it is. However, I would rather have my kid on the "watered down team" team he's on where he's not the best but not the worst, developing, getting more than adequate play time, and contributing to his team, than driving 3 hours every weekend. By the way, my kids watered down team beat the team that drives from CT to MA every weekend so I guess we are doing it "properly"

Not really. Just making a point that "watered down" hockey in youth hockey is not a big deal Remember, it's about development at this age. Unless your the Dad that will be spouting your kids Mite and Squirt winning team records when they are in HS because that makes up for the fact your kid is on the 3rd line and not getting play time....that make you "the balls"
