What is with all the hockey dads (and moms) who watch games along the glass instead of watching the game from the stands with the rest of the families? Same group that huddles together watching practices to evaluate every drill and performance of the kids. I have generally seen this from mites through peewee minor level. Same guys talking about tryouts 1 month into the season.
Guys......give it a rest. Either your kid is over pressured by you or your kid sucks and is just happy to be there to begin with. Relax and enjoy the long run with them.
Usually it’s to get away from the people that sit in the stands and are annoying . They scream for Johnny to skate, skate Johnny!!! What are you doing Johnny!!! Get the puck Johnnn ney!
My experience is that glass watchers are simply trying to get away from the crazy parents in the stands yelling at their kids and coaching from the top row. Glass watchers are generally quiet, and above the gossip that eventually overtakes the parents in the stands. Also, some glass watchers no themselves and remove themselves from any potential altercations with other team parents.
Why anyone would care where people stand to watch a game is beyond me. Original poster mad because he can't squeeze in down by the glass.
There are also nutjob goalie parents who like to stay close to their little sieve. You can tell who they are - they are the ones who switch ends after each period.
True about goalie dads switching each period. You can also tell who are the daddys of the forwards that don't play in the defensive end (or fail to backcheck)-- they also switch to the offensive end of the rink each period. And why not? their bender tries not to venture into the defensive zone. He's got to be ready in the neutral zone for that long pass for his breakaway (which usually ends up as a turnover because Daddy wants him to score rather than pass, and he has to try to skate through multiple defenders or execute the toe drag he's been practicing with family dog in the driveway)
says the dad in the stands who yells "shoot" every time anyone on his kids team crosses the blue line.........
C'mon, plenty of tools everywhere - at the glass, in the stands, in the locker room area. A whole lot of parents living vicariously through their kids.
I'll watch from the best view. Some rinks it's the stands, others it's the glass. There's a difference between the guy just watching by the glass and the guy that pounds on it.
I am a glass watcher and the reason I am there is not to offend any parent with my critical commentary of the skill set of their little darling.
I love that people take these post so seriously
I find it hilarious that people on here actually care and have an opinion as to where people stand during games. My kids are 17 and 15 now so I am pretty much at the end of the line when it comes to "youth" hockey. I guess all I can say is I have no idea why on earth people get so caught up in crap like this. Just enjoy watching your kids play and don't get caught up in the gossip and who did this and who did that and who is elite and which coaches' kid sucks and doesn't deserve any ice time compared to x y and z.
It will be over before you know it, so chill the F out and enjoy it without all your stupid hangups.
And for the record, in the 12 years the kids have played the game, I have:
Stood alone on the glass watching
Stood on the glass with other family members / other parents
Sat in the stands alone
Sat in the stands with other family members / other parents
Chased my younger son around the rink while the older one played
Chased my older son around the rink while the younger one played
Done the clock
Done the scoresheet
Had a great time watching the games with all 4 of my kid's grandparents
Watched some games with their great grandfather
Watched others get old
Enjoyed every minute of it all no matter where I stood or who I was with and I will miss it when it's gone
So quit yer *****in' about everyone else and enjoy the ride on your own terms
Sorry your kid got cut from his HS JV team.
teams are all different.... our team has several moms that think they should be NHL coaches yet have never played and yell shoot, two hands on the stick and every other useless piece of advice every 5 sec.... I head to the glass or other side of rink to enjoy the game. I try from time to time to join the nonsense for entertainment value but last only a few min before I cant stand it......
I find it is easier on my back to stand rather than sit in the bleachers.
Depends on the rink, stands at HT suck, can't see a ton of the play. I love sitting with some of the parents on the team and watching the games, other days I like to stand at ice level and watch games. Who would care really?
