My son played middle school hockey for the first time and they allowed checking. He is average size, but I was amazed how it changed the game. To those who say there is no hitting in the game anymore, go see it. I am not for goons who go out there and hurt kids, but it changed the game. The kids that were big and fast totally dominated by end of game.
I saw a kid get hit with head down and by the second game he was giving up the puck as fast as he could.
Wait for it........Wait for it......
No more waitin' 'till the hittin' starts!
Hockey is a contact sport but the checking has been on a dramatic decline 20-25% at the highest levels of the sport in the last 20 years. At the youth, junior and college level even more. We eventually inherit footballs concussion issues.. Not many open ice hits and checking lines are nonexistent. Expect to see an even more European looking hockey game in the near future.
You waiting for hitting to start.. real hockey guys laugh at that one
