I agree 100% You have to respect the jersey, show some self respect and don't just dump it in with filthy equipment. With that said, parents please take heed and GET OUT OF THE LOCKER ROOM.... and for goodness sake.. STOP CARRYING YOUR KID'S BAG. There's a PW Minor dad around our club that carry's his kid's bag, its pathetic.

Last one, will some of you lazy parents wash your kid's foul-stench-god-awful-equipment. (Goalies exempt) Please don't give me that "it's hockey" stuff. Be a decent parent. He'll stink to high hell on his own when he hits puberty, until then, do him the favor. Nothing like walking past a row of Pee Wees, standing on the glass, waiting for the zam to finish... and feeling like you're about to hurl because Mommy or Daddy Bender are too busy at happy hour to disinfect the staph off of the old shoulder pads.

Amen to that!! And teach your bender to hang dry and air out equipment after use... nothing worse than foul smelling gear that’s left to marinate each and every day in its own sweat, staph and god knows what else !!🤢🤮🤢

Two things. I tell my team look at the girls (this is boys hockey) carrying there shirts on hangers. We call them pussies. I actually did not know this was a team rule but we use it our advantage. Put you shirt in the bag like a man.

Second as a coach - I will tie skates but its not my job. If the kid cannot do it I would rather parent do it and then get out of the locker room. Last year for squirts I must have tied like 10 pairs of skates a game/practice. It sucks ass but there is no way I will tell a kid no.

This year for peewees I have one kids who I have to tie his skates and I have never seen his parents once. He gets a ride from his sister or something. I feel something must be going on at home so I just do it. They are still kids.

Get out of the locker room! This is not your space. You are not on the team even though you write the check. I will give some leniency to squirt minor parents for the first half of the season, but no leniency for squirt major parents....none.

- Tell your kid to work hard, listen to the coaches and be a good teammate. Do not tell your kid to score a goal or tell him you will pay him for scoring a goal.
- Say to him "are you ok tying your skates today or are you going to ask coach to do it?"
- Cheer his team on...not just your kid.
- Please don't be a cattle bell ringer, standings checker or period changer....its just embarrassing.
- At the end of the game AND practice: STAY OUT OF THE LOCKER ROOM. THIS IS TEAM TIME. Your kid will eventually come out of the locker room. If he comes out late, that is because he is having fun bonding with his teammates. Side note: If your kid is ALWAYS the first kid out of the locker room, your kid is not bonding with his teammates and you better look at other teams for tryouts.

Not true. The people who know and abide by these rules (and care when others don't) are the ones who played sports at a high level. If you play through HS and into college, you understand that an athlete carries himself a certain way. This guy is just trying to help those parents who weren't allowed in the locker room to understand this fact. Baseball was my sport, and believe me there are many more "rules" than this that if violated will get you laughed off the field or hazed.

Spot on.

When I coached Squirts that was the first rule I implemented, no parents in the locker room for games or practice. Second rule, players tie your own skates. I also let them slide Squirt Minor year and the coaches tied a lot of skates but at Squirt Major they were on their own and they knew it. Told them to practice over the summer because next year they are on their own. Third rule, carry your own bag. Fourth rule, next bag you get has straps to carry it, no more roller bags, you look like a Mite and they take up too much room in the locker room. Hockey players carry their bags.

For those that disagree, as stated, you probably didn't play sports at a high level. The locker room is a special place for players and coaches only. Heck, even trainers know to stay in the training room and the players come to them for treatment.

Ya gotta love the Hardo's who get all worked-up about the kid having his skates properly tied. What's the use of even practicing or playing if you're not developing your skating correctly? Yeah some kid out there flopping around with loose laces is really improving - shut your pie-hole coach, you know nothing about sports or improving. Better he learns to skate than your little 'stand at the hash and wait for the break-out pass because this is how I learned it in 1975" B.S.

Yeah I did play sports at a high level - pro for 7 years and you know what? I tied my kid's skates properly throughout Squirts and you know something else? He can skate circles around your dusty bender all day long. Sit down and let them learn and let them enjoy the game, your little break-out diagrams can wait.

Shirts should be on hangers that's a no brainer. Correct, they're not pros, but look at Middle and HS teams. Kids wear shirts and ties to games. They're not pros either.

unless you are playing house league, game shirts on a hanger is a must. respect the game, respect the jersey, respect the team, and respect the organization. It is as simple as that. This goes hand in hand with not wearing your game socks during practice. respect the uniform.

Game day is not practice. The earlier they learn the difference, the better. Mental preparation for game day begins long before they step on the ice. Ask any athlete that played beyond middle school, or high school JV, and they should know this.

However, if they are unable to lace them up tight enough as a squirt, you will only be sacrificing their development by forcing them to tie their own skates before they are doing it correctly. At the end of the day, what is more important?

Going back to the original post. Parents should stay out of the locker room. If skate tying is needed, either do it outside the LR or get in and get out well before the coach starts his talk....at least 20 min before the game. No parents after the game, there is no need unless there was an injury.

HA , Joke. They kids usually doing the Hazing and laughing are the ones seeking out autographs and calling asking for tickets to games because certain players moved on those worried about the "rules" ended their career early. Why risk my kid not tying his skates properly when he hasnt matured yet in order to satisfy some "unwritten" Rule. And the jerseys can go in the bag. Fold them up nice and place them in Last so when you open the bag you can take it out and hang it up. Nothing like seeing Jerseys all over the floor at dirty rinks while the kids are waiting to get into locker rooms. Just more stupidity.
