Game day is not practice. The earlier they learn the difference, the better. Mental preparation for game day begins long before they step on the ice. Ask any athlete that played beyond middle school, or high school JV, and they should know this.

However, if they are unable to lace them up tight enough as a squirt, you will only be sacrificing their development by forcing them to tie their own skates before they are doing it correctly.
