Kid from VJW was tossed for his cross check. Why did they toss the kid from the Rifles #5 it looked like. Was he the teams sacrificial lamb. But that open ice hit was delivered with force and intent. And you can hear the Rifles mom’s cheer and ring the cowbell after that... Stay Classy Springfield

Whole thing starts at center ice, go back and watch it #63 shoves #10 from behind into the glass. #10 follows play behind the net and gives a few whacks to #63’s pants. #63 turns and comes up high with his stick to kids face. Kid gets up and takes out wrong kid, gets pounded again by #63, tomahawked by #5 while still getting punched by #63. Skates away and then gets slashed by #5. Somebody should tell #63 if he can’t take push back he maybe shouldn’t be the first to push. If you watch it close when the kid from VJW gets up #63 hides behind the Ref.

Every team has their "thing".... ice goons, PIA parents (cowbells, mom chirping, angry dads on the glass), coaches yelling and swearing at opposing kids, hometown refs, bad ice, goalie dad videoing from behind the net, parents carrying their kids bags at the squirt level and an occasional hot mom club. The longer you are in the sport with your family, the more you will see and you will figure it out.

Except most of those kids are just starting their 2nd or 1st season on this Rifles team. They have 3 long term kids and one of them is the goalie. One kid returned from a year or so away( he will be their best player by far). #63 and #9 are both first year Rifles, maybe they won’t even see a league game they keep this stuff up.

The team will be very tough to deal w. Dman will only get better..

3 of the 4 Dmen are big, all 3 big men are slow as molasses, only one can really move the puck and shoot. Their best Dman is the smallest one, solid with the puck , good skater , moves it well and keeps people in front of him. The big trees get roasted by everyone. The team will be lucky to make the E9.

ANother Dimwitted response. Go to Canada and watch the kids play. It's hockey not garbage like this. If the organizations in Springfield are taught to play like garbage, the kids have no future. Clean the sht up and move on.

We were waiting to play the next game so i have no skin in the game. And in fact you're dead wrong and clearly haven't played serious hockey. There's a reason hitting isn't allowed at this age; medical facts point out the greater risk long term effects of head injuries at a younger age. There's supposed to be no hitting in the game (taken out for precisely the above reason), let alone the garbage from the other night. When the hitting starts, kids are trained how to properly hit and how to more importantly take contact. Until them, player development is about skill on the ice. If you can't understand that, it's alarming, and hope your son doesn't ever face serious injury from lack of coaching.

The canadian skilled players aren't hitting at this age. Go up to Montreal or the cross border tournaments in Vermont. The Canadian coaches/parents get it, they are all about skill and finesse. We watched the #3 ranked center in Canada play (Canadian teams from Toronto, Montreal) against a team from southern mass and it was night and day. Speed, skill on one end, cheap hits on the other (the parent reaction was worse than what we saw the other night with people from Mass telling the Canadian parents to "go back to their effing country". That's downright embarrassing). The canadian team didn't need to hit and the game wasn't even close 10+ to nothing.

None of these kids are going to the NHL anyway, so teaching them to try to take each other's heads off is ludicrous.
Your team looked pretty skilled, hope they focus on that alone this year for a successful season.

Just so you know. My son is a rifles player and has had two concussions, a knee injury, and a back injury from playing hockey. We’ve also had a kid break his collar bone in a tournament. So it does happen. It’s a contact sport. As the kids get older the more contact there is. And your team was real “ classy” by flipping the bird as they were leaving the ice.

The worst thing that happened was the VJW players cross check to the Rifles kid after the whistle blew. #15 was talking to the ref and the kid hit him in the back of the neck so hard they both went down. That is intent to injure.

That was a **** move, and he should be disciplined for that cross check as that could have injured the kid,
but the 8 stride bodycheck was a terrible thing to watch.

No I am not. It doesn’t matter who my kid is on the team. I am just saying that he’s been hurt playing. I’ve had to drive him straight to the ER for being slufooted which is illegal and the kid should have gotten kicked out of the league but I didn’t persue anything. I did have to pay for 6 weeks of physical therapy for his knee injury that he sustained. I am just saying hockey injuries happen. My brothers friend got his wrist skated over while at a tournament when hey wer kids and another kid broke his collar bone three hours away from home. And just for the record we clapped when the player got off the ice

But none of that nonsense that went on Saturday needed to happen. As long as kids like #63 can’t control themselves this will keep happening to your team. The kid who did the cross check from VJW was reacting to an over reaction from #63 who didn’t like the kid swatting him in the thigh. That stuff happens all game, if he’s going to spaz out every time you are in for an eventful season. And #9 taking a run at that kid wasn’t needed, 5-0 score with his team coasting to an easy win. Maybe their coach might want to instill a little sportsmanship into those kids.

This is why I am glad my kid is EHF ELITE. We dont have to deal with this rif raf and dirty play.

You realize it was all a money grab by USA Hockey to keep revenue coming in through peewee years, right? The 'medical facts' were presented by USA Hockey as the reason but ask one or 5,000 medical experts if it's a great idea to delay checking until the age when the absolute discrepancy in size is at it's greatest and 100% of them will tell you it's a stupid & dangerous idea.

And here we are, all for the love of money and a little boost for the kids in Ann Arbor.
