U14 “elite” parent here. Was expecting more...seems like an extension of Pee Wees...Message to all coaches at this level.
Screaming at the kids and calling them puss*%s and stupid when they get their butts kicked by teams with better talent and are thought the game properly ain’t going to help develop them. I have a crazy idea. How about you introduce systematic play in practice, explain the game, maybe watch some film or video to show the kids what they should do? Another crazy one for you. Ever hear of a coaching board? Yeah, they are typically used in practice and games on the bench.
Oh wait, you rode pine at a crappy college for 4 years and can score on your goalies in practice so you must know how to coach????
I can totally share the sentiment. Although, my bender is 2 years away from going into U14 I would have expected more out of coaching at that level. I guess, I just have to learn the lessons from others and do proper research on coaches as, at this point or any point for that matter, proper coaching for a kid going into high school is critical.
Unfortunately in some cases not much changes at u16 and u18 either. Both at the half and full season level. Players given certain playing time based on what team they were recruited from and promises made to parents. Zero systems taught or enforced, no in game adjustments other than pulling goalies. Zero ability to even pair the kids properly.
The jersey is just laundry. It doesn't make a practice plan, teach a system - and adjust that system to fit the team he has, discipline when needed, praise when needed, the laundry doesn't teach. There are bad coaches in good organizations and good coaches in bad organizations.
Anyone who isn't identifying and seeking out the best coaches regardless of the laundry by U14 is not helping their bender.
My son is a pee wee major(06 not elite or black)and his coach just sent him YouTube videos of what is expected at his position in the different zones, I as a parent am happy with the extra effort from the coach. A U14 coach should be putting in some more effort.
A bigger problem is parents that do not understand the game but think they do
I am not a plumber but when a plumber does a ****ty job, no pun intended, I can tell...
So as always blame the other person instead of yourself. Just like most check writers in the stands. If you did some research you probably would have found out the coach was bad at his job But you didn't do any research to make sure you got the right guy for the job. Another Stupid parent blaming others for their mistakes. Either that or your kid is a P***y who cant handle that level. nothing wrong with that if you accept it and move forward.
And the drunk screamer coach takes acception to this thread! Sorry your career stunk and you can’t convey your thoughts to kids in a constructive manner!

Better than the Drunk Screamer parent who doesnt know crap about the game and thinks that showing your ***** of a son that being sweet on the ice is the way to get ahead. Please be quiet and keep writing checks so i can bang your wife in the 5 star hotels.

Hopefully the coaches kid can skate. More often then not you end up with a boat anchor.
Chances are your coach instructed using the same methodology last year, the year before that, etc. That means you are either new to the team and didn't do your requisite homework or you expected a sudden change in philosophy. Either way, when looking to blame someone, you needn't look further than your mirror.
I feel your pain. We had our first practice tonight ughhhh.
So we are assuming your "Ugh" is because you were an asshat last year and didnt do your homework on the coach before you burned your last bridge to come to a new organization? Dont worry you will find other idiot parents in the stands to ***** with and complain about the coach when it is clearly your fault for choosing that guy to lead your children.
