2005 age group has a few players that were cut this year from their "elite" team for next season. There's a player from a sub-500 T1 Black team but NONE of the players from an excellent Northstars team that have won the T1-Black division the past five years? It's a bunch of BS at TPE. We went the past two years and declined the invite this year.
It's hard to justify the validity of this program when things like that happen. For the most part, this is the same list of players from squirts till now. Really trying to figure out what SF and friends are trying to pull here.
TPE does no scouting whatsoever. They rely on old lists and whatever coaching friends want their friends kids there.
Also noticed that this was the first year they only have two age groups. Previous years had three age groups.
Same conversation every showcase and tournament EVERY year, it’s getting old. How come we Never hear about the good ones on this board? They must all stink right ?
I heard only going to be 2 birth years moving forward. 06/07 next year...06 will be last age group to do 3 years. Will be 2 years per age group moving forward.
Just went over rosters. Majority of top kids at both age group are at this event. Is evey top kid listed? Probably not. Is there a handful of average kids? Probably....that's life. Who cares, John Scott won the NHL all star MVP a few years back. No event at any level gets 100% of the top kids and doesn't have a few favors. This one does come close though from what I have seen past 2 years. This event is fantastic. Great hockey and loaded with prep coaches all weekend watching games and speaking to parents and kids post game. Seminar with college coaches is great to listen to. Super high end kids are being watched by National devt program as they are there all weekend as well. Had a discussion with the NTDP rep last year and he said this event and one other (forget name) are marked on their calander every year to check out top talent outside their normal USA camps. The event Gets a bunch of good players from around country together just after their regular season ends and allows them 4 games and a skill session to show a bunch of either NE prep coaches, juniors or Devt program staff members what they can do on the ice. That's it.
Definitely a good showcase. College coaches actually watch and give good feedback. Probably the best showcase for this age group. It is worth going to for sure.
It's a great showcase - top kids are there. The bottom 50-75 you could interchange with another 200 kids - same as any showcase.
Love this comment. So true.
It's interesting that players are invited mostly from IHC ba bje ssk bjt and mmf. I guess those are where top players AND interchange-able players belong hence invitations. The other E9 and some Fed teams have only interchange-ables hence no invitations.
Further discussion that the TPE rosters are not a true reflection of the best players in the area is not necessary. This isn't a Team Massachusetts or U.S. hockey evaluation camp, its more about having the connections to get invited rather than playing ability compared to peers. Clearly some kids participating are top level 06's, but many aren't - so this is like many other capitalistic ventures in youth hockey. No worries, ISL prep coaches won't be at the event handing out full-rides. If you're really interested in your son playing prep hockey, get the ball rolling by contacting the head coach directly and you will get responses and tons of literature on the school, etc. It's part of what they do, attract interest in their schools and expand the candidate pool.
is the 06/ 60 development camp similar to this tpe camp?
06 sixty? What kind of make believe tourney is that????
