It\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s not only this weekend. They were in Toronto for like a week in May, then they had Friday games during the Showdown, then they were in Montreal last weekend.

Same for the 2012s.

It\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s crazy, because these same parents are going to make the same decisions when their kids are in higher grades.
Sorry your kid isn\\\\\\\'t good enough to play or got cut. This stuff is just pure jealousy and nothing more. People miss school to go skiing or leave for vacation early, or a ton of different things. We\\\\\\\'ll go to Chicago, play hockey, catch a Cubs game, and have a couple of good meals. It\\\\\\\'s a fun experience, just like Disney or whatever else people like to do.
Dude, get over yourself. It isn\\\'t jealousy. There are very few 2011 and 2012 parents on the Boards. None of these comments are from parents of kids that got cut from these teams. And there are tons of opportunities to play spring hockey if you;re willing to write a check.

Be honest - tell us how many days of school has your kid missed in the past five week? If the answer is one or two this weekend, because you didn\\\'t do the Canada trips, then the comments weren\\\'t directed at you. Doesn\\\'t matter if it\\\'s 2nd grade. They\\\'re still learning, and missing a cumulative two weeks in a condensed time period disrupts learning.

I don\\\'t care how you spend your money. It\\\'s good to hear you\\\'re making something out of the trips. But, the choices you\\\'re making now, if you make them later, will hurt your kid in school. He is SOOOO much better off being a good student AND a good hockey player - with the ficus on being a good student, first.

I met a guy at a tournament a couple of weeks ago whose grandson failed 9th grade because of hockey. He was livid at his son-in-law for letting that happen. What colleges do you think are interested in a kid who flunks out of HS?

And from the sound of it, some of these kids on these baby BJB teams are headed there.
Why isn’t the grandson enrolled in an online academy? This is better for hockey stars.
Yes, let's all aspire for our kids to get a GED so that pesky schooling doesn't get in the way of hockey.

School and grades are important but what about gaining social skills to. Talking to teachers, other kids, girls, all of that’s important.

Hey Donkey. You say you were at a tournament a few weeks ago did your kid miss school? What year is he ? Why is it ok for your kid but not for others? I know why because your kid got cut ! #noinvitetochicagosodaddycriesondboard

He did not, smartass. It was a tournament in Hamilton ON run by Junior A scouts that my oldest played in. They know they don't need to see a kid play 6 times to know if he has game. So it was intentionally set up as a two day tournament. We flew up after classes on Friday, flew back Sunday night.

The thing parents need to get a grip on is, these organizations are preying on your wallets. You think, I can't have Johnny miss out, he'll fall behind, so you make bad decisions.

I'm not saying missing a Friday now and then is the end of the world. BJB have been tweeting out the results. You can see how many games these kids are playing. Too many.

It's really scary the direction this is going. Spending money they don't have, chasing scholarships that aren't there. And every birth year is worse than the ones before it.

Don't be them.

This is so true. 06 parents are really wrapped up in it

Re: Who is the father that pushes their kid the most in this sport 2011-2004 birthyear

so are the 08s. nobody looks in the mirror and sees their 5'6" frame and thinks about genetics. they all think their kid will be 6'2" despite the genes

Re: Who is the father that pushes their kid the most in this sport 2011-2004 birthyear

Don’t label a certain group of parents are crazier than the other. Everyone of these parents in hockey are bat**** crazy at all levels

They only get crazier as time goes by. The 06's are worse than the 04's and the 08's are worse than the 06's.

If the parents of these '11 / '12 players invested the money they are spending in a single spring season, it would probably pay for two years of college. I'm sure not every kid on these teams comes from independently wealthy families.

Re: Who is the father that pushes their kid the most in this sport 2011-2004 birthyear

Thank you to everyone for the good advice on how to raise my kids. I would never of known what was acceptable in terms of school absences, and how I should spend my money without help from this forum. Thank god there is a one size fits all formula that I now understand. I also don't know if I am tall enough to let my child play hockey since I am only 5'10". Is there some sort of cutoff I should be aware of? It seems that if he's not going to be 6'2" maybe it's a waste of our time?

It's a discussion board asshat. You raised an issue that represents a storm brewing in the sport. Others discussed it. That's how it works. If you're too thin skinned stay off the ******* board.

Re: Who is the father that pushes their kid the most in this sport 2011-2004 birthyear

Sorry, what's the storm that's brewing? Parents pushing their kids too hard?

Parents spending way too much money on meaningless hockey, in large part for bragging rights, while also sacrificing their kid's education.

Re: Who is the father that pushes their kid the most in this sport 2011-2004 birthyear

And why is that your problem? If they screw things up with their kid, and blow their savings on it...why do you care?

Spend your money however you want as long as you understand the final destination is the beer league. Especially because you are only 5'10".
