National Bound teams should have play downs before they declare the top # of teams for state tournament. Organizations mani****ting the rankings should be fined.
In simplest terms you didn't beat the spread, so even though you won, you didn't win by as much as you should have so you went down. They in turn did not get beaten as badly as originally predicted, so they move up accordingly. If you had pla*** to the exact spread, you both would have remained neutral.
More games against more teams helps the algorithm and hence is meaningless in the first two months. They basically say that themselves.
In theory, if you were the worst team in the age level to start, and lost every game, but pla*** only top 10/20 teams and lost by less than the spread every time your ranking would rocket way up. You could be a top 50 team and never win a game.
Your movement up or down also depends on how well the teams you pla*** previously continue to do. If a team that’s a 90 when you beat them ends up dropping down to an 86 over time then the value of the win you had also drops over time. In fact all of the values from your previous games change over time as the rankings of the different teams you pla*** rise and fall. Therefore even if you win one weekend you might drop in the rankings because the teams you pla*** previously collectively did worse than expected. This is why when given a choice the top teams will only play other top teams. They insulate themselves from the unpredictable ups and downs that other teams below them in the rankings experience in MHR. It’s also why the top teams will travel long distances for games. Rumor has it the MHR developers are on the boards of a few major airlines. Joke. But maybe?
