Poked my head into the other rink yesterday morning before our game where some 2014s were playing. I thought it would be fun to watch some young ones play hockey.
Mom and Dad. Your kids are 7 years old. Apparently you have forgotten. I have never in 25 years of 4 different kids heard so much screaming and yelling from the bleachers in my life. Not one positive comment. Over 1 period I listened to Skate, skate, skate, come on Johnny get with it, engage him for Christ sake, do you want to play or not, move your ass, can he stop anything, that kid sucks, bend over, use your stride, you suck ass ref, that kid is a loser ....... I could go on and on. The mothers were as bad or worse. Screaming at the top of their lungs. Sadly I didnt see one smile on a kid out on the ice. To the one European guy who screamed all game and then berated his kid to tears in the lobby and put on a parking lot clinic complete with his adult stick to show junior everything he did wrong- What a complete douche bag you are. To the rest- shame on you.
More teams should institute a zero tolerance policy on loud parents. Yell once and you will be escorted out of the building, come back next week but keep your mouth shut. Plus it gives the Zamboni driver something to do between intermissions.
I'm finding this particular group of 2014s, the parents are complete a*sholes. All over, town programs are way down because these people have heard that club is the way to go and they have to be a part of this exclusive club. Most of these kids cannot skate/play and I will put several town teams up against their so called elite club team. I hate how water downed this is and its only going to continue to get worse.

:joy: We all know that even an all-star team of 2014 town players would have the clock running on them in the first period if they dared to play the top elite club teams. You're a clown.
I doubt that town teams can play against Elite teams, but I know what he means in that there is not much difference between town and some of these money grab club teams. The kids just starting out in youth hockey now - seems parents have a lot of money and think that club is the only way to go. Maybe I'm mistaken, but that is the impression I am getting in talking to people around the sport.

First, there is no such thing as elite 7 year old kids, sorry. Second, parents move to club for a number of reasons, some to be part of the "club" but a ton of other factors come into play, like ice time, skills, off ice opportunities, home games that are actually at a home rink, a schedule you can plan around, etc. You shouldn't even begin to measure the kids until Pee Wees and when you do you'll notice something, the majority of kids who sta*** town only are well behind the development curve to their club peers. If you don't agree, that's fine but do yourself a favor and go watch tryouts for a decent D-I or D-II public high school. Watch and you'll see the juniors that are destined for another year of JV carrying their town team bags from the locker room.
Now not all club teams are created equal, some are money grabs that invest little into skills and development so you don't go there.
Now back to the OP, chances are that kid that has the crazy dad will quit the sport before long, it's a shame. Most of the crazy parents will slowly begin to calm down in the coming years as they begin to understand the long journey that ends for 99% of the kids in high school or on some useless U18 full season team.
I wonder if these parents scream at their kids on the playground when they get tagged by their friend playing tag, or don't swing as high as their friend on the swing set.
If they don't then they need to ask themselves what's the difference? Its a 7 year old playing a game with his friends.
In your vast experience you should know as the kids get older the rinks gets quieter. The parents eventually learn the kids don’t hear them and as they get older the realize they are embarrassing the kid and themselves. The parents are learning how to behave at the same time the kids are learning to develop and they both will develop over time together.

Thank you. I didnt know it was appropriate for mite parents to act like asshats but not high school. Makes sense- carry on.

Rephrase "most parents realize they are embarrassing their player and themselves. Those that don't are captured on video trying to get on the ice and/or attacking players as they come off" Sometimes you simply can't fix stupid and sports in general bring out the stupid in too many people.
