Quite the conundrum. I'd usually say go with the coach and that is my advice if he gets to attend all practices. But, be careful if he isn't going to get any play time or have any friends on the team to the point where it isn't fun for him. Development mostly happens in practice at that age IMO.
Stop over thinking this and asking idiots on this board. Most never pla***, most were not very good. Take the spot where the coach wants him, let him enjoy the game. Sounds like a good team. The idiots on this page think playing for the top EHF team will make or break a kids development. HAAAAA. Remember those mites that were better than every one else? Where are they now? Most of them got passed at this point. (The true elite kids keep getting better, that's a small %) Right now we have kids who are going through puberty or already did. It will happen all over again in the next two years. I can't wait to laugh at the parents who can't see this coming. But, but my kid pla*** on an EHF elite team, why is he not playing. HAAAAAAAAA

Haha very true. Ask the St. Johns kids that didn't even make JV. Its to bad they were beat out by a kid who pla*** in the rainbow league most of his youth.
Jesssus people are dumb. The level doesn’t matter as long as your kid is challenged, well coached, enjoys his time at rink and loves the sport. Do not think much about anything else. Hockey is a late development sport. The big change comes at 13-14 when testosterone level comes into play. Some kids will improve a lot at that age and some kids will fall off the *****. Level of play at PeeWee Major does not dictate how good they will be at 14-15.

4 kids 2 in HS. Does your son have plans to play ISL, prep? If he can produce on Elite teams he stands a much better chance of being noticed recruited and put on the coaches roadmap.

This is fairly accurate. Producing at Fed elite means something. With that said getting heavy load of quality touches at E9 or Platinum does wonders for development. Too many parents give too much effort on finding an elite team for their average to good player, in return their player does not get those quality touches.
There is simply no reason to choose to be an alternate over heavy minutes on another team. ZERO! None of it matters when they get older. Let the kid play. Not practice. Play. Simple decision.
Why am I seeing asterisks in this post and a lot of other posts lately?
Seems like the host of this site installed some sort of filter meant to prevent offensive words from being used. Funny thing is, many of them are from other languages other than English. For example, Y, E, and D, mean something crude in another language, so they get blocked, even when part of a totally legit word like the past tense of the verb "play".
Unless you are an EHF Elite full time you can do anything you want. Development happens in practice and games. Practice with the best coach you can find. As far as games go put your kid on a team that's at a level where he will touch the puck in games and have some success. These third line EHF elite kids chase the puck around in circles and never touch the puck. These kids parents want to say my kid plays at this level and the are screwing their kid over. If your in practices developing and touching the puck and having success in games he will continue to grow and probably pass on bye the chasers!!!
