this keeps getting brought up here but seems pretty meaningless. Yes they own rinks and maybe they'll purchase more. They don't seem to be doing anything for hockey in MA at this point other than owning some rinks.
The demise of the EHF...They already own more than 30% of the Orgs/Rinks in EHF and a few in the E9...Buckle up gonna be an interesting off season....
What do you think will happen, have heard will happen, in THIS off season? changes for next year? or further out?
My kid is at one of those rinks/orgs and Edge hasn't made any changes at all in the last couple years

They aren’t going to buy teams with fed bids that cost a good chunk of change and walk away from their fed bids. Makes 0 business sense. “Oh let’s buy this but then destroy it.” Massconn sold the rinks and fed bids to black bear. Rumor was the fed bid alone was over a million dollars. If their plan was to buy all these rinks and start their own league, why buy teams with bids to other leagues? Why not just start new teams in a New league and then not give ice to the teams that were there?

Ok again why buy them? Why buy the bids and then not use them? The fed ain’t going anywhere. If they don’t use them half of the kids leave and go to other fed teams and other e9 teams.
I have no idea. Just seems like every week for the past few months people are talking about big changes coming to the fed or the demise of the fed. The fed has a few really bad teams and if those haven't been disbanded yet then I don't see any big changes coming. People are apparently happy with it the way it is, I guess the good teams at the top keep it going.
Yep, sounds very Black Bear. Black Bear started by buying-up rinks in the mid-Atlantic, then moved into Illinois, Ohio, etc. ~30 total. They buy low, apply some paint (sometimes they don't even do that), then raise ice prices. With enough leverage, local affiliates are forced to play in their leagues. First it was the AHF for Tier-2 teams. For Tier-1, THF. The endgame is TBD but the more rinks and teams they acquire, the more leverage they accrue. Their tentacles reach from USHL (Youngstown) to NAHL (Black Bears) to NCDC, EHL, and several Tier-1 charters. I think the only place they've been stymied is Chicago... although they spent a mint in litigation trying to secure a Tier-1 charter in Illinois.
At the end of the day, everything will cost more: town, travel, all the way to men's league.
They may own a few rinks in their portfolio but many are just managed by them and owned by the Towns/Cities they are located in. As for programs, they own a couple of academies & the Worcester Railers/White Hawks. In other words, unless they go on a buying spree for youth hockey teams, they aren't going to "bring down the FED" or any other league.

They don't own any of the other orgs? Not Wizards or SSK? Its not just the railers, they own the Boch teams, girls and boys

Just buying rinks. Changes nothing. I have some friends that work there. Eagles sale has fallen through

They don’t list other teams but I know for a fact they own more. Why aren’t those listed?

Right. They 100% own the Blazers org. They bought them last year and sent email to all families whose kids play there. As well as the Rodman Rink and the Foxboro Rinks.
I am curious about the Huskies and how they fit into this if at all. Rumors of Canton Ice House being sold for a frozen food wharehouse means that they could be out of a rink along with about 5 or 6 HS teams and various other programs. Will programs get booted out of their current buildings?
Pretty sure the end game for all of these companies buying rinks and not the teams are for cold storage... 1000s of square feet of frozen storage is more valuable to Amazon then us youth hockey patrons.
You are the dumbest person on the internet today. Congratulations. You think these rinks are insulated enough to become freezers? Ya think they would drop 17M on the Foxboro rink and kings program to then spend another 5M turning into a walk in freezer? So dumb. Honestly. So dumb.
It isn't the air in the rink that freezes the ice dummy...ever wonder why it's warm in the rinks during the summer but the ice is still frozen? so dumb.
Yeah, the crap hole in Bedford is air tight so in the summer they could crank those generators and get the air down to freezing and keep it there. So dumb.

wow this triggered you
But he’s not wrong
This was the first I'd ever heard of Amazon purchasing rinks to turn into freezers...I don't think that's going to happen. If it does I hope my kid is in beer league by then.
they only bought Foxboro rink not the Kings or Spitfires. The rest of your rant certainly seems to make sense. But maybe some of the mechanics/infrastructure needed for cold storage is there but I dont know. The Canton Ice House rumor is going pretty strong right now. You would think the program (Huskies) would do something to dispel the rumor. Tryout season coming up and they are joining the BEAST league. parents must be feeling very uneasy there.
