Thanks for your encouaging words. Yes, we lost almost all our Jewish religion and culture. But somehow, through all the centuries, I was raised with God\'s commission to Abraham to keep The Name and identity of God. I was raised with the Shemah that God is One, and God is the Cause of all that is real.

Yes, we are thriving today. I have saved tens of thousands of lives whith my humanitarian work in agriculture. Some of my family has joined synagogues and returned to Judaism.

I was not raised with the culture that all the Ashkenazi people in my synagogue were raised with. But I am descended from Abraham too, and carry the Commission. My Marrano ancestors came to American in the 1700\'s to help make it into the new Promised Land.

Assimilation and intermarriage was a mixed blessing. It gave us access. But many lost their identity. Your acknowledgement my story as a Sephardic Marrano makes me feel validated.

I want to know why Steven Spielberg has not brought the Sephardic struggle to the screen? Our struggle goes back to our days in Lisbon; after we were exiled from Spain. Indeed, Sephardic Jews settled present day Mexico but were wiped out by the Mexican Inquisition.

I was sent the PPS file of the Struma and the fate of its passengers. I was so upset over it I will never forget how those wonderful group of God
s people were destroyed in such a horrible manner. I lived in a very small town of Pompton Lakes NJ with many Jewish people. We even had our very own Synagogue in the town. I am not a JEW but I loved all of the people and am still friends with each and every one of them. We truly were friends and we still share those feelings to this very day. I read out loud to myself every one of those people's names just so God could hear them again!!!! May they all be in a better place and I wish all of the relatives of them from the survivor the most wonderful and deserved life all the days he has in his great heart. I will never forget this story and they will live in my memory as long as I can still fog up a mirror on this earth. My father was from Damascus and my mother from Izmir. 20 years ago I took my mother to visit Turkey. She left at 12 in 1927. We look for where she was born but had no address in Izmir but remembered that her room had a window overlooking "the synagogue by the tree". B'ezrat H' we found it! The synagogue was now used as a stable with sedarim strewn on the floor.... The Turkish men refused to sell the books... Unfortunately, though I wrote the final address, I have misplaced it. Can someone help me to locate this synagogue again. Thanks!!!

I enjoyed your site! Both my father's family (Pacheco/Martinez) and mother's family (Dominguez/Lopez) were founding family of New Mexico and I have traced both families back to Spain & Portugal. Ladino is still spoken in Northern New Mexico amongst some very old families. My grandmother spoke Ladino and I knew it was different as a child but didn't know why. I do hope Ladino can be preserved so future generations can enjoy it!

My father Helias, born in the US, raised in Crete, escaped Greece to Egypt, and joined the US Army, and was then recruited into the OSS,. the Office of Strategic Services, precursor to the CIA. He was sent back to Greece, to SALONICA, and formed a spy network, where he was the only American soldier/spy in Salonica, sending wireless messages to OSS HQ Cairo from an abandoned factory once owned by Greek Jews. The web-designers for his book have linked your site to his book's site, and told him that your site is truly amazing. My father Natan Matalon came to the USA in 1920, he played the oud and entertained his children and grandchildren with Turkish and old Sephardic songs.
