That’s fine- It’s his prerogative. If he doesn’t want to go, he shouldn’t be forced or made to feel guilty about his choice.

You can still go to church if you want to.

If he’s a recovering alcoholic-That’s good news. Pushing him to do something he doesn’t want to do (ie going to church), will only cause him stress and may lead to him relapsing into alcoholism. No point in risking that.
