I’m not sure what state you are in (I’m in Louisiana, a community property state- everything is divided equally debts & assets). My ex & I have been divorced for almost a year but have not settled community property (still fighting it out). I left the marital home (not by choice, he stayed in the house- our situation is similar in that we have a home equity loan on the house- his name is on the note mine isn’t but both our names is on the deed).
Now getting to your question- he is entitled to half the equity in the house HOWEVER he is also entitled to half the debt, i.e the mortgage, and you can seek reimbursement for half the taxes, insurance & even the bills you’ve paid for maintaining the upkeep.
