Re: Covert Narcisistic Personality

Hello Angela .

A narcissist loves to be unclear and illogical. They do not want to be accountable for anything they have said or done. They drop words like throwing pebbles in a pond never to be seen again. This is all done with the intent in mind of confusing the subject so you will never see their real intent – which is to live from moment to moment without any restriction to their freedom to go on doing anything they like without any need to be accountable or reliable.

Any lie can be instantly denied, any act can be blamed on you, any promise made can be broken, any agreement can be forgotten, any mistake cannot be admitted, any abuse can be excused, any right of another can be exempt. Whatever they want can change to the exact opposite once the first thing is over and forgotten by them. They don't want to be restricted by logic, truth, rules, laws or the rights or others. The central focus is on denying your right to do anything other than go along with what they want and any opinion they have. So they automatically dispute what you say and if possible redirect the topic to something different, usually some criticism of you.

They are all the same because they have the same thing in common, controlling you through lies, raging, denial, changing the subject, misquoting, generalizing, rambling, etc. If they feel pinned down their automatic reaction is to insist that any standard that denies them complete autonomy is wrong and they are right. So they don't want you to see how they really think which is using a variety of tactics that allow them to take a contrary position to anything other than WHAT THEY WANT ?

Their thinking is chaotic and changeable so they don't want to commit themselves or be pinned down and if they say something that seems to commit them in some way they always have the option of denying they ever said it or even simply that they changed their mind. They go into long irrelevant details to try to give themselves time to try to tie up the loose ends and make the outcome seem believable so they can keep you from noticing their motive which is to control the outcome of what is said and leave you completely confused (cognitive dissonance) so they can go on doing whatever they choose.
