Well we made it back in one piece. Had a couple rough days on the pond with 6-8's, but we did all right.
Started off Wed. morning at 525 when I put my line down and told John he could set up. Before he could grab his rod I was into a burner that ripped off 400' before he stoped for the first time. Ended up being the biggest fish of the week at 30.9. Lots of big fish this year, everything was from 23-31.
Thursday I got into the wire for the first time (thanks Ryan!), what a blast that was. I thought I had it bad with 400' to reel in the first day, but the first fish on the wire took me out to 650!!(started with 280 out)What a work out that was!
Best day for me was Friday when I went 7-7, and John went 4-4. Saturday, we sucked pond water as I went 1-12 with 2 break offs!
Flys I tied up as well as the twinkies I brought were hot. Silver bullit was on, and I got some on my zip lures. Deepest fish came at 138 over 220, and in the inside water it was 55 down over 65. Temp was every where depending on the day.
Flys on the flasers/spin doctors worked well, we also were using 11" E-chips.Green/white combos did better than most. Got a tropy eel at 19 1/2 inches. John got made at me when I picked it up and tried to give him a hicky with it. He almost jumped out of the boat. Back to work today, boy does this suck.
Can't believe more from the board don't go do that derby.....
We go every year in August. If someone would like to go and needs to follow someone around for the first time and that is the only thing holding you back, let me know.
Great report popeye!!! I leave saturday am for the 8 hr drive under tow. Sounds like flys are one of the hot tickets this year along with meat of course. Where were you fishing?? I think you told me before. 1-More question I just finished setting up wire for the dipsy What were some of the line out numbers for depth??? Hope my report is as good as yours when I return!!!
Watch out, the big Sampson barge might make the trip next year, but we have a few (quie a few) bugs to work out yet. Sounds like you had a great time, tried to call you a few times, no luck.
Charlie,
250-350 on the wire. I fished from the salmon river past the north dune to the north, and past the stacks to the south.
Green was hot on the flys.
Its hot up there, you will do fine.
Try a silver bullit with lipstick.
Captian Sampson,
Phone was messed up all week. You would have a great time up there, I just don't know about the pontoon boat up there....Might be a little rough.
Where are you fishing this weekend?
I think Squam only, unless my son wants to try Winni, then maybe my wife wont have a heart attack if I move the boat again.
Might go back up and fish Squam Thursday if I can manage it, definately be there Thursday night for the weekend. Have company coming up Thursday afternoon, til Friday night, not sure how much fishing I'll get in Friday with company there. Soooooo Thursday may be the best day for me to fish and play it by ear from there. Friday may be the only hard day to get out fishing, Monday we have a huge cookout here at my house, Labor Day tradition. Of course bad weather might be a factor in my favor ???????
