Blue fin and I had a good day fishing out in the broads with live bait. No bait rigs, just a single hook through the lips. 8 salmon, (6 3 yr olds and 2 2yr olds) 1 Laker and 1 rainbow. 2 Salmon came on 5 and 6 colors lead, the rest on the riggers 26' to 32'. They did some great runs and jumps. One got into three different lines. Only ended up with a half of a shiner. They stole a few shiners from us, but had a lot of action on the light tackle! Caught one of the worst hook wounded salmon I've ever seen. Jack's having it for dinner tonight. I hoping my friend the Gray Ghost will post some of our pics. (If he's not on Lake Champlain! lol)
Thanks for another great day on the Lake. Your experiment using live bait really paid off.I've never seen such active and acrobatic fish.Salty always has one more trick up his sleeve to catch fish.
Nice job Salty & Jack.
Just saw a "private" pic of your hook wounded fish. I guess that is what they mean by "ripping the lips off of fish" Nice of Jack to take it out of the fishery and put it to good use.

"No bait rigs, just a single hook through the lips"
I have been fishing with Dana V. and he has developed a new bait rig that uses only one single hook. We have been testing it out and the results have been great. No need to run in free spool either. It works just like the original slider rigs except Dana came up with a method to hold the mouth of the shiner/smelt without using a hook. So this rig will be legal should the single hook for bait become a reality. I'd post the rig up but I need to check with the inventor before doing so. I'm not sure what plans he has regarding the rig.
Don't overlook crawlers either. Last week we were hooking up before we even got to lead core on them. Yes he has a rig for them too. Still in the testing stage. Our speeds have been 1.5-1.9. Painful speed if your in a dead zone, you don't cover much water.
