I catch a lot through the ice in Moultonborough Bay usually near the bottom or suspended 15'-20' off the bottom in 30-40' of water. However, I don't target them in summer so I don't know their habits then. I catch a few randomly when trolling for salmon.
I catch them in other lakes. I was told they are larger in Winni. Was hoping to find them. I have only caught smaller ones.
Doug, the way I fish them at Mascoma is to troll a double #4 silver spinner with a worm, find a school and just keep dragging threw I haven't tried at winni yet.
about 10 days ago just south of 3 mile and hull islands over deep water, while salmon fishing marked good pods of bait lots of fish down 20 ft. or so, rigged one lead line with spinners and dillies ran 3 to 4 colors and boated half a dozen whities some in the jumbo size. more of a by catch as i was fishing for salmon but as you say good eating and kept us busy salmon slow that day seemed to be a early am bight not much after 9 am, hope this helps and good luck, bob f.
Thanks for the comeback. I will try the area.
