My cousin and two friends are out to visit from Indiana... mostly for bear hunting, but I talked them into a day of fishing. (After today they already decided we're going again in the morning!)
We landed the biggest fish to come on my boat this year, today. 24" long male salmon weighing just shy of five pounds. He never jumped, just kept pulling so we thought we had a laker on the whole time. That is until he came to within ten feet and we could see ol' silver sides... awesome.
My cousin used to live in NH so he's fished here some... but the other two have never even seen a laker or salmon in person. Never mind catch one. Well, they have now!
Normally all but one or two fish from my boat go back in the water. However, these guys wanted to experience the taste of NH fish, so we kept enough for a family fish fry tonight. Even kept a whopper white perch to cook up.
We started in one area with leadcore and flies, but after catching only lakers for two hours we decided to move in search of salmon. Picked up the lines, ran to a new location and no more had the lines in the water then we had two nice salmon on. So, I was thinking... this is gonna be a killer day. But after that we probably only picked up a fish every half hour or so. But they were all good fish... and all from 50-55 feet down on riggers. Rangely db was the lure of the day. Not only did it catch the big boy, we had one on almost as big and lost it 20 feet behind the boat.
In the picture below is my cousin Everett (w/24" and 18 1/2" salmon), friend Neil (w/20 1/2" laker and 19" salmon) and friend Tom (w/17" salmon and 15" white perch). All fish were measured, so list is accurate, but the way my cousin is holding the big salmon out, it makes the others look shorter than they are.

Nope... we caught this fish where no one else was fishing... and I haven't been there in a while. His brother was on for a bit, but shook the hook. We'll be looking for him in the morning. LOL
Our early morning spot from Sunday was packed this morning, so we made one pass through and headed for deeper water just outside. We were cut off twice on the first pass so I said the heck with it.
Sure glad we picked up and moved.

Nice fish...good sized white perch in the mix. What were they hitting?

forry... no blackie tonight... just mosquitos. Hmmm I am pretty sure he is my cousin... but you never know, I guess. LOL

ilucas... yeah, I was out yesterday. I talked to you on the radio once. Guess you didn't realize it was me. I was on the Coolwater doing a "ride-along". Wind was not bad at all today. Had a slight chop early then it smoothed out and was quite sunny.

Yup, Whip was on Newfound... he was coming in a little scratchy, but we could definitely understand him. I was just along for the ride with Travis that day. Hadn't seen him in a while, so we were catching up on our summer "happenings".
