trolling courtesty on winni .

was fishing black ponit todaY NOT ALOT OF BOATS EARLY but picked up around 6:30 . was heading northeast upthe middle with a boat coming across on my port side (popeye's boat to be exact)who was fighting triples still moving east and not in control of his boat and forced me to take a hard right turn , then instead of him turning left to his port side he took a sharp right turn towards the way I was coming from in the first place and snagged my leadcore setups which made me lose 2 flys and leaders. just wanted to say thanks . all in all had a good morning put 12 lakers in the boat 17 to 23 inches 1pishing 4.5 pounds .weird day not 1 salmon . fish were caught on flys and hardware 7to 8 colors on lead and 35 to 45 feet on riggers . had triples to start the day at 6:00 am then 2 straight doubles within 10 minutes after that and the bite lasted till 8:30 for us and moved up to diamond island till 10:00am with no other bites. "reel it in "

Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

If you saw him fighting triples, I think you should have stayed out of his way. It would be much easier for you to move than him at that point. "Reel it in" next time. No pun intended.

Re: Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

he was far off from me and keep coming towards me not me going towards him . which he could have put his boat into neutral like I did when I had my triples on not to get into anyone elses way . "reel it in "

Re: Re: Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

Popeye's an old sailor so if he were not overwhelmed I'm sure he would have recognized that if he was approaching you from your port beam that you had the right of way ("inland rules of the road"). Fishing alone, thats pretty tough situation for both of you. Hopefully next time you guys can find some way to communicate. At least you were both catching fish...not to diminish your lost flies, but I would have given a lure or two to Davy Jones locker today if I could have caught even one nice fish (I got skanked at a local reservoir in troutless new york)...Eric

Re: Re: Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

I still stay away from anyone that's fighting a fish. You were both trolling. Nobody has the "right of way."

Re: Re: Re: Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

Not to sound like I'm taking sides or anything but I can almost gurantee you that Popeye did not mean to do that in the least and would be more then willing to say that he will more then likely leave an apology once he gets to read the posts, If you think that's bad try hooking on to a monster Salmon the first time you've ever gone to the winni derby (4 yrs ago) to have an out of towner see you fighting a big fish come to close to your boat and cut your leadcore Now that's is a Real Bummer (That guy actually could have cost me a new Boat but cause of him I'll never know??????????) that stuff does happen sometimes I actually did it 3 weeks ago to my 2 Amigos who happen to be a couple of my closest friends Sorry to hear that happened but i can pretty much gurantee it wasn't done on purpose!!!!!!!!!! Take Care God Bless and Tight Lines LOL Dave From up North

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

Just curios does it mean if you are fighting a fish you don't have to be in control of your boat

Re: trolling courtest on winni .

You thanking me on the water on the radio was not enough? Not enough folks out there to make you feel better?
Thats right we were up in the back of the boat doing up tripples, along with the net. No, we did not see you. As you said with no boat traffic I was not worried about running into another boat, as anyone NORMAL if they saw all that going on would not make it a point to stay on thier waypoint track or whatever else you did to cause you to hook up my ball with your pretty yellow fly, they would stay clear.
You want to talk courtesy, that would have kept you clear of me, courtesy. Its obvious you have never been to Lake Ontario, because if you were like that up there, you would get hurt, and your boat would get trashed!!!.

Dave, I did apologze yesterday on the water, even after John said not to! but its obvious that was not good enough.
If I had someone coming at me with a drill going on onboard, I would stand clear, thats courtesy,What he did was self imposed as all he wanted to do was stay in a straight line and crab like a newborn about the results.

So in closing reel it in, know that if I see you doing battle, I will get out of your way, even if i have to devaite from my course.(COURTESY) And If I am doing battle with you around, you better do as your name says and "reel it in" or give me some more room or give me some more flys,!! (if you can't stay clear how about a red fly next time, as I don't really like yellow.LOL)

I'll let Sampson give the report as I have lost my interest too after reading this garbage.
DON'T POLUTE THIS SITE
See you next weekend, I'll look for you!!

Re: Re: trolling courtest on winni .

Like I said Popeye, common courtesy/sense would make the average person stay clear of a boat fighting a SINGLE fish, never mind a triple.

Re: Re: trolling courtest on winni .

Reel it in, sorry to hear you lost some flies. I have fished with Popeye for well over 40 years, that's right, he is my younger brother, and he never knowingly screws someone else up, nor do I, nor does anyone else on this site. Last I knew Winni was a pretty big lake. If you see someone fighting a fish, no less triples, get the hell out of the way. Everyone here will do the same for you. And don't skank this site up with your whining. If you are going to do that go to NHsportsman.com, it is already screwed by guys like you.

Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

I've been on several Lakes and seems like there is allways a slight problem with I hate top say it. "lake rage". I knpw a guy on Squam that allmost quit fishinh there because some guy cut off a fish on him Sorry about the lines cut. Black Point has been a little crowded lately and with allot of guys fish lead core 200 to 300 feet back, accidents will happen and it was just that, an accident. I thought everything was cool when we talked on the Lake, hope we all settle down and put this one behind us.

Popeye tied your fly on when he got it off his rigger cable and caught a whole bunch of Salmon, only kidding.

Re: Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

Sounds like I missed a Derby yesterday!! Must have been important to stay on course as to not miss catching the winner!
My two cents say that you should give way to guy fighting the Fish.
Sounds like way too much stress for what should be a relaxing day of fishing!

Re: trolling courtesty on winni .

i dont understand, when popeye dropped his speed down from a screaming 2.2 mph to maybe a half mile an hour or less to fight a triple, he drove over your lines, and you were over 150 feet away from him before the incident and couldnt manuever out of the way. and he appologized and your still mad. last week while trolling, a boat stopped less than 40 feet from my bow to set up lines and i didnt get that mad, i shook my head in disbelief and then just enjoyed the rest of the day.
