Re: Re: Atlantic Salmon or Landlocked?

Thanks, thats good to know!I would hate to take one thinking it was a brookie. Gunstock stream? Are you reffering to the stream that feeds into the lake at ellacoya? Actually that is poor farm brook and the stocking reports show they stock it with brookies.
Thanks for the reply!

Re: Re: Re: Atlantic Salmon or Landlocked?

No, not Poorfarm Brook; Gunstock River which runs from Mt Belknap thru Gilford and enters Winni in Saunder's Bay. I'm sure some LL salmon also run up Poorfarm but I never caught any small LL slamon in Poorfarm. Small LL salmon are often confused for brown trout.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Atlantic Salmon or Landlocked?

Brown trout parr / fry look very similar to atlantic salmon parr...they are the same genus. Salmon will have a forked tail, browns a squared off tail. Those black markings are definitely the way to distinuish both from brookies. I've cleaned 16" salmon that still had faint black bars..
