Once you put your boat in you go and park your trailer on Letter S road (I think there is a sign at the launch). You detach your trailer from your truck, leave it there, and then you can go back to the harbor and park your truck at the harbor. When you are done fishing you grab your truck pick up your trailer and pull your boat. The trailer parking is about a mile from the launch.
I attempted to use the public launch yesterday for the first time. Since I had no idea where the parking street for the truck and trailer was, I was frustrated plus I was alone and didn't know if I could leave my boat unattended while I tried to find the parking street. I went back to center of Alton bay at intersection of rt. 11 and found Downing's marina. I pulled in at 530 am, saw the launch, they have envelopes to put your $20 into write your liscense plate # launch and park. I found it Extremly easy and secure. I'll launch there from now on. The Letter S road is towards the center of Alton, past the marina at the end of the bay, and as you start to go up the fairly steep hill, the road is on the right. Go about 3/8 of a mile up Letter S road and you will see the parking area.
