Russ Johnson and I went to Powder Mill Hacthery yesterday. Salmon are 11 to a pound (6 or 7 inches long) and should easily be the desired 9 or 10 to a pound at stocking.
They also have a new man in charge, they brought him in from Milford Hatchery 2 weeks ago, over 25 years experience, he was very confident the size problems are a thing of the past..
very good news BJ. i plan on a visit soon myself.
boat is out of storage, batteries in boat/charged, new riggers and will be loading it up with fishing equipment very soon... preparing for an early ice out.(i hope)
I was going to pull mine out from the back and start putting my stuff back on, but I see it's going to rain for 3 days. I don't want to put my top up yet so I'll wait til next week. I haven't looked at a thing since I put everything away last fall, guess I have to start pretty soon.
I think Cabelas is going to cancel my card, I haven't bought a thing since last August but I guess I better make an order out and give em a call.
They had tons of fish at the hatchery, Browns were 2 to a pound and fat suckers.
Salmon almost ready to go, just one last big growth spurt and they will be good to go.
John I know the real reason your at the hatchery. Your trying to get them to put the bigger salmon In squam. And increase the numbers of salmon they stock in squam. Let me know how it works out.
John if you need any help with putting that order together let me know I'll keep the book handy, good to here the hatchery report as I was unable to be there last night.BARRY
I put the order in, all set, size does matter, lol.
Meeting went well several guys couldn't make it, but we have a name and mission statement..
