Re: Updated Super Eight Watchlist

Anon
The Mass. State Hockey Coaches Association met Sunday morning to hear presentations from coaches and re-evaluate its Watch List for the Super Eight tournament. Here is the updated list of 14 teams (in alphabetical order):

Andover

Arlington

Austin Prep

BC High

Braintree

Catholic Memorial

Central Catholic

Hingham

Malden Catholic

Marshfield

Pope Francis

St. John's Prep

St. Mary's Lynn

Walpole

The coaches will submit their final ranked list of 12 teams to the MIAA Ice Hockey Committee on Saturday. There will be no coaches presentations the morning of the selection and seeding meeting this year.

Who are the two teams most likely to be dropped? I think it will be Marshfield and Braintree although this weeks games results will have an impact.

Don't think Walpole will be dropped by virtue of being undefeated. Independent of whether they are deserving or not.

Re: Updated Super Eight Watchlist

So are all the anti-Walpole people going to give them any positive feedback if they do in fact play and beat a "good" team? Braintree is still involved in the super 8 discussion yet they lost to Walpole as well as all the "good" teams they played. I guess when a team scores the most goals, gives up the fewest, and has the most shutouts in the state, they should only be allowed to play the school for the blind.

Based off of their record they should be considered BUT, The haven't played anybody! Played two decent teams; tied Framingham 2-2 and beat Braintree 1-0. Braintree is definitely on the outside looking in for Super 8 but should have a decent shot at going far in Div 1 tourney. Thats it .

Walpole should hope for a play in game. This way if they are up to snuff they can prove everybody wrong with a strong showing, win or lose. With the loss they can go play in Div 1 tourney where they probably belong. No shame in that !

Re: Updated Super Eight Watchlist

That is exactly why the R.P.I. rankings leave a bit to be desired. How on earth to they stay were they are having played no one?

Re: Updated Super Eight Watchlist

Updates to Watch List ... Down to 14 teams. Framingham and Xaverian no longer on list.

Because they play everyone in their conference twice, so their SOS is overstated. Because their conference is soft, the average teams have above average records, the below-average have average, and the bad teams have below-average. This makes their SOS overrated, because if these teams palyed outside their conference more, their records would be a lot worse.

They won't. Braintree isn't that good, nor is Framingham. No one from this conference made it to the semi-finals last season, even though they submitted half the teams.
Stats are great, but again, put it in relation to who they played.
I agree that they may get a play-in due to going undefeated, but they will lose, go down to D1, make a run for a few rounds, then get bounced when they face the good teams.

Re: Updated Super Eight Watchlist

R.P.I. must also take into account the blow-outs...extra points for lopsided victories.
