Re: Dennehy out at Merrimack!

What a shame. He did a great job with the tools he had. Rink/facilities and school are not good enough to draw Blue Chip players that are looking at BC, BU, UNH, Northeastern, etc....The top players are getting offers from all of those schools....why would you pick Merrimack if you had a choice? Good luck to MD, he will land on his feet and in a better situation. Give the guy a good quality school/degree and great hockey facilities and watch him take off. Good Luck!

Pro-MD guy but hate this argument. They won at Union which is smaller and arguably worse facility. Who is #1 in the country? Not BC, BU, UNH, Northeastern, etc its St. Cloud. Their facility not much different than lawler. They win without "blue chips".

Re: Dennehy out at Merrimack!

All I'm saying is you're not getting the top talent to go there. Not a chance. I'll give you the Union example, they caught lightning in a bottle for sure... but St. Cloud? Come on man, that's a historic hockey destination in MINNESOTA, you can not compare them to Merrimack.

ECAC night in and night out is not Hockey East.

Providence is a decent comp.

Merrimack ain't easy, but it clearly wasn't working as is. Maybe the coach won't matter, maybe it will. But if you're the admin and boosters you have to at least strive for something better than 1 tourney in 13 years. Can't just throw your hands up, quit trying and blame the facilities and location. There are some smaller D1 programs that can remain competitive and every now and again have a winning season for the fan base. It's not impossible.

The canonization of Dennehy is a little over the top.

So you're not a Dennehy guy, that's fine. Just say that next time.

Re: Dennehy out at Merrimack!

Providence used to be a comp. Not anymore and not just because of Leaman. Have you been on that campus lately? It's at a whole new level in all aspects of a University that will attract kids from anywhere. Also PC basketball evelvates the school much more than hockey which Merrimack has no answer for.

Re: Dennehy out at Merrimack!

Merrimack is the toughest D1 school in the Northeast to recruit to without comparison. Not only are the facilities terrible, but there is no campus. Even places like Union, UMASS Amherst, Maine and UNH have great campuses with traditional college party scenes. Merrimack has Fudrcukers and Bertuccis.

Re: Dennehy out at Merrimack!

It's a great school for rich dumb kids though.

lol you do know they both have the same # of teams in the top 10. If you don't think ecac as good if not better than HE you don't know college hockey....

Top to Bottom HE is a much better league. That is a consensus. On any given night any ECAC team can beat any HE team for sure. HE is a grind!! Never a night off.
