Op here. His dream came true last night. College commitment made! Thank you to everyone who read this post along the way, can’t wait to get started
Did you do anything different in the couple weeks? Or was it the result of what you\'d already done?
Result of what he had already done. Reaching coaches via email and playing well in a few tournaments this summer.
Having good grades and being an overall nice kid helped a lot also.
My son is 16 looking for a college commitment. So we tried the "If your good they will find you approach"..got some emails after 2 tournaments but nothing big...tried the "take the initiative and email/call coaches"..again got some invites to "college camps" but nothing big.. Have 5 advisers asking to 'take him to the next level" at the low cost of 2500-3500 per year..Anyone out there have an approach we haven't tried yet? Kid is a scoring machine, great grades, good size but I don't think we know the right people.
This is a farce, if your kid is 16, and the only advisors that are interested in your kid are the ones you have to pay. there are no colleges looking to commit your kid, whether it be DI or DIII. Nice try though.

Ummmm..your wrong. HA HA
False
Let Dad have his moment. As was pointed out early on, commitments are meaningless anyway, and probably hurt more kids than they help. I'm willing to lay odds he will be going to a different school anyway by the time his kid is 21.

Do 16 year old kids commit to DIII schools? I dont think so...
"If you're good they will find you approach" worked 20 years ago. Today it's all about the buzz and PR because even the old timers can understand it that the assessment of a player is way too subjective. It's not like running a 100 meter dash where your time is your time.
Only idiots, old timers and guys who have the right name on the back of their sweaters recite the biggest lie told in youth hockey - "If you're good they will find you"
