So the continued downward spiral of SJHS Shrewsbury hockey continues, and WILL continue until their current AD/Varsity Hockey coach, Mike Mead (yup, I included his name and yes, he is the AD as well as the Varsity coach) is removed/fired. He has stooped to a new low of LYING to prospective players. SJH has an absurd policy that if a Junior is trying out for the Varsity team but is cut, they cannot play on the JV team, thus not playing at all. During the Winter Sports meeting, a Junior student asked him this exact question. True to form, Mead blatantly LIED and said Juniors play on JV all the time. A simple review of pasts JV rosters shows that NO Juniors are on their roster.
But it gets better. Mead just had tryouts for the upcoming year. The players that were cut could EASILY beat the players that he kept. In regards to the above mentioned Junior that asked this question, he WAS cut and is now not playing. I guess we all know who is paying his paycheck.
BTW, my son DID make the team but I kinda wish he had not. The team was a cluster F#%@ last year and will be even more so this year.
In reality. . . sounds like your kid got cut!
Sorry your kid got cut. Might I suggest some new drinkwear for the holidays.

HAHAHA.....DON'T TAKE OUT YOUR KIDS DOWN FALL ON THIS POST. MAY I SUGGEST BADMITTON FOR YOUR SON
Graduated SJ in 86. No Juniors ever played JV in any sport there! If u can’t make varsity as a JR it’s time to move on!
That has changed....there are many Juniors that are playing on JV teams now. The fact that Mead "lied" to the boy concerning the hockey program was not good. Makes you wonder how many others he has lied too.
Just to clarify, my son did make the team again. It is just so frustrating that the team was in such disarray last year and it appears that this year may be even worse. The kids are proud to be playing but NOT enjoying the experience.
I am guessing someone who thought their kid was a superstar because he played EHF but didn't make the team is a little disappointed.
Politics play a role in everything. Sorry your kid got cut because of his dad.
Are you ok? What player got cut that could have "EASILY" beat the players he kept? You had me for a little while when talking about juniors not being able to roster on JV but STOP with the nonsense that your kid is "EASILY" better than the ones he kept. Your kid DID not make the team, that is a fact, sucks I get it!!! There is one kid he should have not kept, kid will be nothing but problems (major character issues and beyond).
OMG....YOU are SUCH AN IDIOT!!! My kid DID make the team...Unlike your little Joey who is probably wearing white figure skates with double runners and still can't skate. Basket weaving 101 for your superstar!
The whole point of this post was airing out frustration that the kids are going to an excellent school for a great education and to try and get a fair chance to compete in sports. We have many friends that are both on the team AND that have are not even provided the chance to continue if they are a Junior but could not crack the varsity lineup.
FYI...did I mention that YOU ARE AN IDIOT!?
No, the kid was cut from V and not allowed to play on JV because Juniors don’t play on JV at SJ’s (S). Either way, still probably time to hang ‘em up.
This is an example of the state of mass hs hockey. Talking about juniors playing JV? Cmon. Just silly. Juniors don’t play JV anywhere -they get jobs dummy! What jr wants to play and hang out w a bunch of freshman. Just silly that someone wasted their emotions -time on this-just plain silly. And as far as coaches go-there are like 10 players on each team that get the ice they want and are happy -and then 10 that are on the team, don’t get enough ice and are not happy. Then there are folks that got cut and want to see people fired for unfairness. Welcome to the world -it ain’t fair
What was most important when you enrolled? The Catholic foundation, the rigorous Academics, or Athletics? CC sports are highly competitive. If your priority was Athletics then you didn’t do your research on how the program operated or you overestimated your talent. It’s highly likely you would have been better off staying at your local public D3 school. If your priority was the religious aspect and getting a quality education then it’s all good. Getting cut is a life lesson. The dream ends for all some day. If you want to change the policy call the Headmaster or the Board.
