BC Beanpot

Watching the Beanpot last night and maybe I've been away from the college game for a while but what is the deal with today's defensemen? They have a bunch of these little waterbug defensemen out there who are much more interested in rushing the puck and jumping into the play for their shot at a one-timer than playing defense. In youth hockey and high school hockey they teach these kids to cover in front of the net, don't leave the goalie standing there alone with two opposing players in the slot but somehow in college hockey the slide in kids who are better suited to play forward (little, fast, great hands, shoot first - pass second, no physicality to their game...) and opposing teams (like Northeastern) just plant physically bigger kids in front of the goalie and they go to town. What's the deal?

Re: BC Beanpot

Yeah, the NHL experiment of basically putting four forwards on the ice has it's moments. All other hockey needs people who can play defense and every pairing should have at least one stay at home defensemen if not two.
