Hingham Middle School League

What is this? Is it worth it and who coaches it? Thanks.

aren't tryouts over for this? but it is a HYH team. the league plays mostly in rockland and some at the Bog. It is town hockey but less time consuming. We have done it, the hockey is terrible, and even our kid said it is not worth the friday evening.

Re: Hingham Middle School League

Yes, neighbor kid is doing it and my son asked me about it and I knew nothing. One varsity parent told me it's not very good but I thought I'd ask. Why wouldn't they scrimmage some select teams rather than play weak local town teams?

Because they are also a weak local town team

I don't know. it is meant as an easygoing supplement to your club/town team. There are teams with a couple of club players that are decent. It is of the play with your friends variety.

Re: Hingham Middle School League

middle school hockey is a way to get kids playing together that will end up being together in High School, in a few years. It is not as big of a thing around here due to the vast majority of club hockey and how much kids are already on the ice. But it is great to have the same kids play on a line together for six years, even if they are not very good players. You may end up with a decent third line in hgh school with great chemistry that clicks.

But, in theory middle school hockey is a great thing, and I have been hearing about numerous town teams starting middle school teams in an attempt to expand these leagues around here, mainly because these same kids while in different leagues now, will end up together on a high school team.

Re: Hingham Middle School League

It's funny around some of these towns where the old timers go on about the old days and how the kids develop chemistry and they need to play together and play town hockey...and then you go and watch the varsity games from week-to-week and the coaches struggle just to try to figure out the lines at all! Now it's rather or not the kid knows how to play and plug him in.

Re: Hingham Middle School League

Agree, they can play together elsewhere. When they were good a year ago their top forwards played together at BA and their top D played together at BSB. Both sets were maybe the best they've had since the Super 8 year.

Re: Hingham Middle School League

Let's face it, the days of playing town hockey and making a good D-1 high school team are pretty much over.

Re: Hingham Middle School League

I disagree. A lot of decent D1 teams have kids that didn't play select hockey. The team from Fanklin that played in the Super 8 had almost no one that played anything but town hockey until half season U16/U18. I'm sure they are not the only ones like that.

I can tell you that's not how it has worked for Hingham. Last year they had a 4th liner and the state championship year they had one 3rd liner. Other that that they all came out of BA, BSB or BJT or...or...or...

Re: Hingham Middle School League

No respectable HS team has kids who played town hockey on their roster.....

This Hingham Middle School league is great....Mommy can drop little Hunter off at the rink and head over to Derby Street for 4 martinis....

Re: Hingham Middle School League

I like the way you think! Burton's or bust!

isn't that exactly what they said.... no clue who plays together because they have not played together for years ?

Re: Hingham Middle School League

Coach would only know who played together in youth hockey by seeing if they had no clue how to play = town players.
