EMHL

Is the EMHL any better then town? Kid got asked to play....wondering if it is worth it?

Re: EMHL

You should ask those question on the town hockey dboard please leave the elite parents like myself to talk about EHF

Re: EMHL

What you get in the EMHL is a hybrid. Town A players not quite at the EHF Tier 1/BHL American level yet. You also get better ice, league, and name recognition.

The cost reflects that - more expensive than Town - you have to pay for the premium ice and league costs.

It originated from the EHF "AA" league which started in 2010. So it was Elite / AAA / AA. Now it's Elite / Tier 1 / EMHL. Same product.

BHL has Elite 9 / American / National. Average National team is maybe a little better than the average EMHL team.

IMO the kids on EMHL teams take it more seriously than the average Town kid. So if your kid is trying to climb the ladder, it may be worth it. If he's perfectly happy playing Town, might as well leave him there.

Re: EMHL

When you play in the EMHL, or EHF Tier 1 (AA) there is no ladder climbing, face it your bender sticks the only question left is how much money you want to spend for it.

Re: EMHL

EMHL is low town level hockey B/C tops. Some levels are stronger than others, but don't waste your money. Less and less teams every year in the league.
They are made of of kids who are on town 3/4 teams or kid that get cut (yup, we cut 4 kids at squirts, all play EMHL now) and cashing in on parents who have never played the game. So for the owners they love it. Its a cash cow for them. they never thought parents would be dumb enough to pay for it but they actually do.

Kids don't take it serious, just the parents do. That goes for any level of youth hockey. To say town kids don't care is ridiculous.

Good luck or your decision, but if he's a Town A kid, even a 2/3 team kid and your happy, just stay put. Our town 2 team played an EMHL team last year, and destroyed them. That 2 team went a little over .500 in the league they play in. EMHL team was near the top of their division. Same thing at the Bantam level.

Re: EMHL

Do not forget that the mighty 02 Bulldog team tore up the Emhl and then gave it to the Tier 1 White division.

And don't forget the mighty 05 NEB team who destroyed the EMHL few years ago becoming champs, finished near top 1-2 in EHF Tier1 Blacks both years of squirts, nearly qualified for Elite play-in status, and then imploded due to below averages Joes on the roster hurting all the good hockey karma. They'll return to the dregs of the EMHL soon, having lost its best players to local club teams and back to town. A return to the Darc side is where you've always belonged.

Should we all just agree to name this clown 'Mr. Town Hockey', seeing as how he chimes in on every post with the same garbage...Yes, we know your elite town program cut 4 kids at squirts, how can we not, you say it in every post! Yes, we know your town A teams could beat any EHF Tier 1 black team, again refer to above...Yes, we know those kids that you are so proud of cutting have gone on to play in the EHF or EMHL! Imagine being so bitter at the EHF/BHL/Elite 9 because your kid couldn't make a team, that you have to come on here every day and obsess about how awesome your town C program is!

And 'Mr. Town Hockey' has seen maybe 5-6 games outside of his town hockey conference. A real expert.

You read his posts and you get the picture that it's a lack of money issue that is killing the guy. 'Don't skate in the summer it's bad for you,' 'go to the beach, all kids need to take more time off,' 'select hockey is no better it just costs more.' Hey, maybe stop posting here, go get a part-time job and spend a little of that extra cash on letting your kid play against better competition. Both of you might learn / see something.

I think his point is if your kid is in the EMHL they're not facing better competition than most Town A/B programs.

LOL, WOW, someone's got their panty's in a bunch. Personal friend of yours posting above. There are good and bad teams in each division however, I believe he compared them to 3/4 team levels. Not even close. 1/2, probably. I also find it hard to believe "yep, that's right, we cut 4" because I have yet to hear of any kids I know getting cut from town and many of the ones I know there played EHF tier 1 and didn't make it the last year they switched over. Play your kid where you he or she fits in and get over your insecurities

Lol, EMHL is not equal to a 1/2 level. Poster was right about the EMHL being a 3/4 level. You're correct, good and bad teams at every level. Someone fed you a line and you took it and believe that EMHL is equal to 1/2 teams. Kids do get cut in town if you have a strong program, and they go to the EMHL to play. I do know kids that didn't make a 1/2 team and leave for tier 1/MPDHL because the parents were ******* That does happen, don't be naive and think it doesn't.

To the OP, as long as your kid is happy, that's all that matters. Don't get caught up in the rat race and bouncing your child all over the place. Hockey should be about building relationships with friends, and loving the game. Kid's need sports as an outlet to the stress of school, life, etc. Where they play shouldn't be stressful. Surround yourself with good families/coaches, and have fun.

Oh right, "this guy", ok we'll pretend here! Browse around here a bit, look at all "his" posts, he has mentioned many times, and is very proud, of the fact that his town program cut 4 kids at the squirt level! Ok, maybe I'll buy it if these 4 kids just came from Pure Hockey with their 1st ever pair of skates and laced em up trying to play some hockey! He has also talked about how his town teams have played EMHL and/or EHF teams in tourneys and beat them. So before you speak out of turn, know what you're talking about so you look a little less foolish (I know that may be difficult)! Oh, and not an EMHL parent here, EHF actually, and the last time we played a town 1 team in a tourney, we beat them 15-0, so I have a small sample of reference.

I know its tough for you meat heads to grasp but what he is saying, which is true, is that of their town league, They have 4 teams of 15 kids and they had to cut 4 kids. Following me? Those 4 kids ended up on a EMHL Roster. So get over your superior feelings about EHF and EMHL and accept the fact that all leagues do not have all the best players on their teams. That EHF and EMHL are "elite" leagues in name only and not competition. Once you get past the top team from each organization it is a total crap shoot of talent and most teams can be beaten by the local town teams if they actually played each other.

Oh, but wait, his town A team played an EMHL team in a RI tournament and beat them! That tells the whole story....right....? Throw that Town A team in the JWK tournament in Jan., let me know how that works out for you!

Town team went 2-2-1 in the JWK 2 seasons ago. missed last years. if it helps.

Which team would that be? Just wondering, looking at the list of registered teams for that year, don't see any town teams listed yet. Not doubting you, just curious. And which teams did they play?

He is wrong. It was the Ocean State not the Kennedy and i think he was thinking of the Warwick Squirt Team. Beat the friars and tied the Caps and lost to the CT hawks maybe. Have a couple friends kids in that group and am going off memory so this could be off a little.

It's not that hard people , really plain and simple EMHL is town hockey that gets 15 minute periods , that's it . The top teams would fair well in VHL high AA divisions that's it nothing more . The non sense is killing me .

The teams in this league are in it for a reason , they can't compete in tier 1 fed even against the bottom teams so they put this league together to keep the money for themselves and out of the VHL. Also the teams can charge a little more and call themselves "select"

And that's exactly what EMHL set out to be - a hybrid between club and town. Better ice time, better name recognition, a stepping stone for kids that want to take their hockey more seriously than the AVERAGE town team.

On a lot of town teams, in the fall kids will be there if they don't have football or soccer. In the EMHL since the parents pay more for better ice, they tend to put it first.

And on most town "A" teams the club kids show up for more ice when they don't have a club game. Can't do that in the EMHL.

So, for an extra grand for six months - that's about $40 a week for the math challenged - you don't have 6AM games and 7AM practices, your kid feels like he is a part of a team and doesn't lose ice to the pint sized prima donnas, and you have a more reliable product week to week. It was a good experience when we were there. It helped my kid to go to the next level. And the next. Oh, and the next.

But hey, go ahead and bad mouth it, if that's what you're into.

I don't think he was bad mouthing it. Just stating what it was so the Fed Rules people would just drop it. EMHL is part of the Fed and it does 100 percent keep money in house instead of the VHL getting more. Kids get more ice time as well.

If he's perfectly happy playing Town, might as well leave him there.

this was the best response -

Re: EMHL

I would argue that the BHL National is not as good as town hockey.

Re: EMHL

Don't listen to the negative idiots that think their kids are going to the NHL. They're part of the problem with youth sports and never competed at any high levels in sports,or they would be so ignorant to the matter.

The EMHL is a good building block. Depending on the team and level . The majority of EMHL kids are more intense and serious about their development than town league from my experiences. It all depends on your kids motivation and passion. If he wants more bring him to EMHL. I did in mites with my boys, and they both play for Top Five EHF(Black) currently.

Also, research the coach and team. Some EMHL teams are marginal as well. Like any team at any level.

Re: EMHL

Thanks to the people who took time to answer the question. To the others, shame on you for bashing 10 year olds. Do your research....plenty of NHL guys who got cut over and over as youngsters....kept at it....and made a pay day for themselves.

Just keep asking the questions, ignore the 90% of BS responses and focus on the well meaning people. I've learned a ton from talking with other parents as my kid has "climbed the ladder" (yes, it's hard to do, but it absolutely is possible), including, believe it or not, from these Boards. You just have to be willing to suffer the fools.

Re: EMHL

EMHL is the same as the top level of Town B. The extra money gets you more ice time, a set schedule for the year and probably more chance for tournament play. Like more levels of youth hockey some kids progress past it and some kids don't.
