Re: Tryouts Choices

Wow, my kid is on the '04 SSK, but now that your duster is going to be on the ice I'll have to make sure he's "sick" that day.

Re: Tryouts Choices

Technically correct. Not sure how they would police that, or what the "penalty" is.

Re: Tryouts Choices

This post makes no sense...EHF Elite team in Foxboro (SSK) and Tier 1 (Vipers) team in Peabody...not in same geographic area nor same talent level...Vipers are 2 levels below SSK

Re: Tryouts Choices

He's just being a d*ck. Makes no sense, obviously has a hair across regarding vipers. Let's all say it together now SORRY YOUR KID GOT CUT"

Once saw a player banned from league for a year for doing this after parents of a player he was going to replace on the team dropped a dime and ratted him out. Be careful.

why would you have to practice with another team during the season? if a kid is making a team change from one EHF team to another EHF team then the offer has already been made or will soon be made. the league isn't that big. the teams play each other 4 times a year and the kids play with and against each other on spring teams etc. the coaches know who the players are on the other teams and in the league. there is no need to do in season practices. if you want to change teams start asking other teams coaches now. they know who you are and they will tell you if their team is filled for next year or if they are interested in your kid. do not show up to a tryout blind. know before going in.

Sorry, but I call BS. There has to be more to the story than a kid skating a single practice in February with another team.

My kid did this once, the EHF age group commish was there, slapped the coach's wrist, told him to not have my kid skate with his team any more.

Re: Tryouts Choices

They choke the league with all of these rules that are nonsense. What are they MIAA guys in trainning running the EHF?

I don't disagree with their having the rule, or it having teeth. It prevents widespread violation (cough cough E9). If coaches and parents would act with integrity they wouldn't need to do it.

How you use the rules is the key. Suspending a kid for a year for a single innocent violation is too heavy handed. Which is why it didn't happen in the situation the prior poster pointed to. Probably a PITA family that had it coming.

Kind of like Dougie Hamilton, who at the end of the day was traded because his parents felt they had the right to tell the Bruins how to run their team. Now he's rotting away in mediocrity in Calgary. But hey, at least his brother is getting playing time occasionally!

I understand the rule too, however, like anything, the rules are only good if enforced across all teams and everyone plays it straight - which - they simply don't.

I've personally seen players (and just around this time of year too) who will show up for the 'occasional' skate with our team at a practice or two - they even have on their current team socks, and our boys will tell us who they are. Then, miraculously some of them will make the team right after tryouts - so it happens, and it happens quite a bit.

I don't blame the kids or the parents for that, I blame the coaches who will do anything to try and dodge the rules.

Re: Tryouts Choices

I have to admit we emailed a coach when we made a switch, he asked us to bring him to a skate. Had no idea at the time it wasn't allowed. Have definitely noticed different helmet and socks this time of year over the years. My question is, is the rule that no players can come to practice before tryouts or just EHF? The rational that coaches know the players only work if it's EHF. They wouldn't know other leagues players

Re: Tryouts Choices

MP has his kids skating with the Caps. Confirmed

It's just an EHF rule. E9/BHL has no rules. Which is why players skate for more than one team. Which isn't fair to the other kids. So, from that standpoint, I like the fact that EHF doesn't allow it.

Any EHF parent owes it to their kid to be familiar with the league rules. Doesn't really matter if anyone agrees with them or not, it's their right to decide how to run their league. Don't like it? Take your ball (well, kid) and go home.

Yes, I understand now it is an EHF rule. My question was, no allowed for any kid to come to EHF practices or not allowed for EHF kids to come to other EHF practices? And, sorry, If I was given a rule book I might be more familiar. I suspect most people didn't get on line, check to see movement rules and so forth when their kid first started skating on an EHF team. If a coach at a program you are looking at after your first year in the EHF says come to a practice, I'm guessing most would go to the practice assuming it was OK

Re: Tryouts Choices

Generally speaking, the rules about player movement only pertain to the elite teams and are enforced but severity of the punishment seems to be based upon the teams involved. Have a kid from an elite IHC team skate with you, the hammer of Thor will descend upon you, NEF or Bandits not so much.

I've never heard of any of the movement rules being enforced at Tier-1 or below.

Re: Tryouts Choices

And the only rule that they consistently enforce (probably because it's the easiest to track) is the player movement restriction. Waivers are a real thing, and make sure you have that sorted out if you are expecting to make a move.

Re: Tryouts Choices

Come on buddy. Surely you can form a coherent thought and write it in a proper sentence.

Re: Tryouts Choices

had trouble understanding corky

Re: Tryouts Choices

FL Alliance kids both talked to coach in advance of making the move. Since they played for a top-team, they had golden tickets.

It seems some FL parents were worried their kids wouldn't get to play in the Q, so they packed up and went to teams that either had a charter (Compuware) or were a likely lock to qualify (IHC).

Huh? tg isn't in the BHL and never could be. They're in the fed and usually in the cellar there too.

Re: Tryouts Choices

tg has players playing in bhl no no

Re: Tryouts Choices

04 IHC Elite team added a couple of out-of-state players this past year - anyone know if that was set up ahead of time based on previous knowledge of the players....or did they come to in-season skates?
