Re: GIRLS

great post. Wizards, Breakers and Assabet are all on top. Breakers girls won at least 2 titles last weekend and I know Wizards won a bunch. I think the Wizards were in like 8 finals. seems like a great program along with Breakers and Assabet. Eagles are good across all levels, boys and girls
Interesting analysis. Assabet wasn't in a single final but they're on top? Eagles were only in one final but they're good across all levels? Wizards were in 8 finals but there were only six finals total? Wiz won 3 (2 T2 and 1 T1), BSB won 2 (2 T1) & Vipers won 1 (T2).

Did New England Pride make more semi finals than Assabet did??? Did I read the final games wrong?!

between U10 and U14 (T1 & T2) ECW were in five finals won three, BSB were in four finals won two, Vipers one for one and Eagles one for one.

Re: GIRLS

First, nobody cares about Tier 2

Second, not many care about Tier 1

Re: GIRLS

The longer the girls compete with the boys is better for development however, in most cases the girls miss out on the most important part of youth sports, the camaraderie of teammates. Sure the boys are are nice at the rink and with her before and during games but they miss out the bigger picture, the true friendships, the sleepovers and the hangouts it just the nature there is always an isolation. Of course I am not talking about the 8 year olds who are only there for the NHL training but for realistic parents don't lose focus. At least have your daughter play full time on a girls team and be an alternate on boys team if they want to.

Re: GIRLS

So funny cro magnon man. These young woman will be going to Ivy League and your son will be working for them. Wake up the world is a bigger place than Ma.

Re: GIRLS

Stay with boys through U10 or U12 then get them with their peers. They will have more fun with the girls and when they are having fun they don't mind working hard. Keep them happy because the possibilities for girls are so much better than boys, at least in percentage of players who get scholarships or recruited to an Ivy.

Wizards are #1 program in Mass and it isn't close. But some don't think too highly of their owner.
Assabet clear #2. (What a fall from grace) Starting to make a comeback. They will be back, but never to where they were just a couple of years ago.
Breakers are #3, though they have some "interesting parents."
Spitfires are probably next. Word is their "leader" never shows up.
then the Islanders and the Eagles.
Eagles have one dominant team, actually one dominant year, but nothing else. U19 team went 7-16-1 this year. U14 19-18-2, U12 21-16-5. So 47-50-8 across their other teams. When BJE loses LR, KB, SN, MS and KT in 13 months, their program will be in the toilet.
Flames are a dumpster fire, as in Charles River.
Shamrocks used to have a good program, but it imploded last year
Falcons, Vipers and the Pride are irrelevant. Play for these teams if location is your #1 priority.

a look at average winning percentage of each tier 1 team at 12, 14, 16 and 19. Not divided by number of games because u12 play a lot more games.
ECW 74%
ASS 62%
BJE 59%
BSB 53%
MAS 51%

ECW won U14 and U19 states, BJE U16.
ECW sending U16 as an at large team, so all three teams going to nationals.
BJE sending one team
Assabet likely sending one
Breakers likely sending one
Spitfres likely sending none
Oh and ECW won Assabet U12 invitational tournament.

I stand by my not even close statement.

Agree with part 1 completely. The top girls players typically stay with the boys through U12 but have definitely moved on by Bantams. If you doubt it, look at some of the earlier posts complaining that the Breakers brought in kids who hadn't played during the season to win one of the titles. Where do you think those kids have been playing all season - town girls? Doubt it - I would bet the bank that they pulled a few girls off of their boy's teams, probably had them rostered all year since they are in the same org. They probably got their game requirements at home games throughout the season. The top girls are all playing boys as long as they can.

From U16-U10 T1 and T2
Wizards appeared in 5 finals, winning 3
Breakers appeared in 4 finals, winning 2
BJE appeared in 3 finals, winning 1
Assabet appeared in 2 finals, winning 1
Vipers were 1 for 1
Islanders were 0 for 1

This tells the story - Wizards over Breakers by 1. Poster was correct, BJE success was entirely at the older levels, two U16 teams and top U14 team were in the finals. Assabet's only appearances were also at the U16 level. Wizards and Breakers were strong from U10 to U14. Wizards seem to have taken over for Assabet and the Breakers have taken over the number two spot that the Wizards were in. Maybe karma is finally catching up to old Carl.

This is pure crap, Tier 2 is for kids who can't play or are not good enough to play with the better kids when they are the younger of the 2 combined ages, those are like the Bruins hanging a Prince of Wales banner!

I would also suggest sometimes winning the State title means you had a good weekend not that you were the best team over 7 months,

you have no clue what you are talking about, for the most part Tier 2 are the younger age group. so it is really u11 and u12, u13 and 14.

and if you look at the teams winning, for the most part you see these are the teams that are also successful during the regular season. successful being in the top 3.

Don't forget about the superstar Defensemen, one going to PC and one to BC. They will still be there in two years. Their D will be outstanding at that time.

Re: GIRLS

Is a certain elderly man in Concord out recruiting a dream team for U 14 nationals next year?

Re: GIRLS

The old man's 2017-2018 U14 Tier 1 team is already a dream team, on the strength of the 03s plus the two 04s (goalie and skater) who played with them this season. As long as the coaching doesn't mess them up, which is a distinct possibility.

Not buying this opinion,

not enough quality 03's and 04's in house they need more from somebody else, if kids show up for their current programs tryouts this week, then he did not get the recruiting job done.

Last year's 03 group at Assabet (on 2 teams) was much better than last year's 03 Wizard team. Most of the "new" Assabet girls aren't nearly as good as they believe, but there is one ex-Wizard who will add to the team, and the BSB girl certainly will. Let's see what the coach does with this group. It should be interesting to see who plays and who does not....and whether that blows up.

They already had the best 03 D player in house, they stole the best 03 forward and now they have the best 04 forward and a top 2 04 D coming up.

I would argue they had kids leave that were better than the Wizards forwards they brought in.

Not going to be enough pucks and everybody will be gunning for them!

Best 03 D, no question
Best 03 forward stolen, yes from BSB
Best 04 forward, yes
top 04 D - yes, if she can stay out of the box
on paper, they are great. But will the coach wear out the top players like he did last year?

kids that left better than ones that came - other than the exception above, yes.

Imports are overrated,

Sure, but DL needed someone to sit on the bench and watch the first 2 lines play. And they needed to be 03s because they need to "train up" some 04s to watch the games next year.

why you need to dress 4 lines at this age is puzzling to say the least,

The 05 Breaker goalie was the best in the U 12 league last year, won them the state title by herself, if she is back they will be tough to beat.

Assabet at 14 is going to lose some games, more than people think

05 Breaker goalie is good, no doubt. But Boch/CR 05 goalie and Wizards 05 goalie are also better than any of the 04 goalies on any team with the only exception the 04 that was on Assabet's top team this year and last.

Say the 2004 girl goalie class is weak across all teams and the 2005 girl goalie class is better. With one exception, the girl who was on last year's Assabet U14 Red Major team and is a 2004.

Assabet 3-2 splits with Mission, how do you allow 3 goals in 5 games and lose 2 of them ?

Wizards- 2-3 beat 2 stiffs, lost soundly to good teams

Islanders- 2-3 better showing than expected

Breakers 1-3-1 thankful the Eagles entered ( you go all the way to VT and play 3 games against your league?)

Eagles 0-4-1 going to be a long year

How did the Wiz do against an "easy" team like the 67's who did not advance in AV's bracket ? Would they have beaten Mission?

I would suggest Minnesota and Mississauga might be thinking something similar about Pitt and the Wiz being in their division

No. Nepean, Stony Creek, Chicago, Little Caesars, Mississagua, MN OS.

No top teams from New England. Same story as the boys now.

Re: GIRLS

Agreed that no MA teams can compete at that level. MA hockey needs to look at MN to see what they are doing? MN was the best team. Faster, more aggressive than anyone else there. Granted it was an AllStar team, but not many of the MA top girls would make the MN team, in spite of what their parents think.

Not sure Little Caesar belongs on your list.

Funny that dads of 14 year old girls are having a ******* contest over whose team is better like U14 Nattys are the end game. Maybe for CG they are, but does anyone care that the rest of the country has passed us by in girls development (or boys, for that matter). Maybe we should stop trying to be the King of MA and figure out why our girls' development is lacking? Something isn't working very well, despite what many parents of our 14 year old prodigies may want to believe. Who is the next Carla Barnes or Jincy Dunne? Likely not playing U14 in MA. Neither of them did.

If you lose to MN by one goal then you compete. agree with Little Ceasars, probably 4 maybe 5 could have won that tournament. Wake up call for MA girls. Across the age groups, there are a few that could compete. Puckhandling, forecheck, backcheck, passing, size and speed of these girls were all far superior.

Yes, I guess that is competitive by your measure. But when you watch one team consistently win every puck battle and control the game for 75% of the game you have to question if MA Hockey hasn't fallen behind the times. Look, we are on the same side, we want MA Hockey to be stronger, but it's just not there right now. We can thump our chests, call it a lull, or have a critical look at the development of the game in MA.

Does anyone really think MA had the top talent this last weekend?

Not Wizards dad, but - were you there? There were plenty of other girls there from other teams, watching each other play. And by extension their parents. This is not 10 yr old hockey anymore. Especially because these girls remain friends across teams even if they have changed teams.

Re: GIRLS

Is that why the Wizards girls were sitting in the rink during the Assabet Ottawa game and were cheering for Ottawa.......you say they have "friends" on other teams, yet wanted their "friends" to lose. Let's face it, for a kids sport, the haters are the parents and the kids reflect their parents attitudes in the way they behave. It really is a sad, petty way to be. Especially since these kids could all end up on the same team sometime in the future.

Re: GIRLS

I think girls are both allowed to have friends on other teams, while simultaneously rooting against their rivals. I'm pretty sure the girls are capable of complex thinking.

Hockey analysis and child development psychology, what more can you ask for?

Re: GIRLS

Who knew that being a supportive friend required "complex thinking". Kids seem to handle player movement better than parents.

And this ^ is contributing to the demise of MA hockey. Everyone thinks that we're competing against Assabet/Wizards/Breakers/Eagles. And the organizations feed that thought process. Assabet doesn't get better by beating the Wizards or vice versa. Good, well coached, skillful players are good, regardless of the color of the jersey. We saw a lot of them from MN and Canada this weekend, and not so many from New England. Fact. So does it really matter if 3 were wearing Assabet unis and 2 were wearing Wizards, and 2 were in Breakers jerseys? If the total is 7, something is wrong.

I assume the best 20 players in Detroit are on Little Caesar and the top 40 in Chicago are on CYA or Mission, Minnesota plays town then makes an all star team

Toronto is significantly larger than Boston and is more hockey focused which is why towns Neapean Stoney and Mississasauga can be so successful (Fairfield CT goes to the little league world series every year because their player pool is so large to choose from as a comparison)

You have 2 problems, MA club owners make $ on the current system and kids at U 14 are told it's all about what can I do to impress a prep school rather than work as a team to be successful

Re: GIRLS

Looked to me like skating was the difference maker. MN OS = Minnesota Overspeed. Skating.

Also, the focus needs to be on making your teammates better, not being a puckhog. How many U14 girls are getting "home coaching" to do the exact opposite? I know of quite a few at Assabet and Wizards both who are hearing that message and a few more that may not have heard that message at home but have reached the conclusion on their own.

Disagree, there was not one singular difference that stood out, there were many. It is not just the puckhog thing, it is also the precision of the passes, the control over puck possession.

I also don't get why rivalries would make a third team better. And yes, I don't like Assabet, i don't like the approach to building a team through acquiring other players rather than development, I don't particularly like the owner. But that has nothing to do with any of the above?

I love the early season critics who came out to see Assabet play especially the 9pm game on Saturday night,

Since nobody cares how the Islanders move the puck lets focus on this collection of 13 and 14 year old girls.

The Wizards could be playing the Breakers in my backyard with Eagles getting the winner and I would not come out and watch. Carl should get a t shirt line going and charge to get in if this continues. What are you all going to do since nobody had the stones to enter the Stoney Creek tourney?

Agreed that no MA teams can compete at that level. MA hockey needs to look at MN to see what they are doing? MN was the best team. Faster, more aggressive than anyone else there. Granted it was an AllStar team, but not many of the MA top girls would make the MN team, in spite of what their parents think.

Not sure Little Caesar belongs on your list.

So if you beat Mission and lose 1 zip to Mississagua who beat the eventual champion you can't compete at that level?

My "measure" is how does a Wizard dad draw conclusions on a Assabet Mississagua game this specific ? Please don't tell me you drove to the rink for a 9pm game to watch kids who are not your daughter???

Not Wizards dad, but - were you there? There were plenty of other girls there from other teams, watching each other play. And by extension their parents. This is not 10 yr old hockey anymore. Especially because these girls remain friends across teams even if they have changed teams. [/quot

The post was in response to someone who called himself wizards, now a anon responds saying he is not a Wizards dad but is calling for kid harmony???

Re: GIRLS

Little Caesars were dreadful, Missasaugua dodged a bullet against AV and AV split with Mission (first game was close, second game not even). So yes AV is in those 6.

Seems correct. Because Assabet gets better if Wizards lose and vice versa. Right? (only in the minds of parents trying to justify a decision)

Fact is that neither Assabet or Wizards (or Eagles or Breakers) were competitive with the top U14 teams this past weekend, and this should tell all parents that something is wrong. Wherever your daughter plays this year or played last year.

Wizards/Assabet rivalry and comparisons accomplish nothing. Seriously. That probably won't be the State final game, and it certainly won't be the Nattys final game.

This is spot on. The problem is simple in Massachusetts, the girls game is getting just like the boys. There are way too many teams. Just like the boys, the horse has left the barn and it will never be the same. It's all about the $$.

Please don't let facts get in the way of blowhards pontificating. Natty guy wants to be heard and crushing his dopey argument with a clear recent fact is not the purpose of this forum.

The clearest, most recent fact available is that all MA U14 teams looked terrible last weekend, compared to the competition. If you don't care about that, fine. I guess everyone will still come to watch Assabet play and therefore it's all good. Enjoy!

I missed the memo that said Assabet was downgraded from can't compete to terrible.

BTW is it not a fact when you offer an opinion that everybody is terrible, hope your kid was in fact not terrible yesterday, even though according to your opinion her team is.

Said the dad of that defenseman. Gotta love AV parents! Brags about own daughter while slighting team and coach.
