Why do coaches and programs feel it’s ok to let this happen? My son‘s team has a U16 player on it. Of course the kid is friends with the head coach and his kid, after all that is how hockey works with most teams and coaches. Friends and family network. Sad part is the kid is basically bottom third. A little bigger and faster but zero skill and no sense for the game. Then again our coach’d kid is the worst on the team.
Why would USA hockey or any league allow this to happen? What is the purpose of the U15 level if you let players play down?
And doesn’t the parent of the U16 player feel bad that he’s actually playing his kid down?
I'm guessing this new kid came in and took playing time from your kid and now your kid is riding the bench. Why else would you be on here whining about it, if you're that concerned about it you should call USA hockey or oh I don't know talk to the coach.
When it comes to Midgets, birth year becomes less relevant. My kid plays Juniors, and many of his teammates are 19, but when we do USA Hockey sanctioned tournaments it's still designated as U18.
I'd first read up on the rules, it could be you're the one that's wrong. But, even if it is against the rules, is it really something to be worried about? Maybe the kid had a contract with a U16 team that folded, and they're just trying to give him a place to play.
My kid not losing playing time. Irony is the coach preaches “fair play” and “respect the game”. I just struggle with knowingly breaking the rules. I guess you just need to know the coach. Talks out of both sides of his mouth. His motivation is coaching his kid so he has a place to play and coaching with his buddies. The really sad part is his kid would prefer to be sketching in his art book instead of playing hockey. It’s a perfect example of why dads shouldn’t coach.
Thanks a Harry USA Hockey. We are a Tier 1 u15 pure team. So, all those games we win that may help us qualify for states? What do you have to say about that? I suppose it’s alright for post grads to play HS as well? Sounds like you just want to argue. As far as my kid getting cut? Yeah, I’m really concerned beacause there aren’t like 50 other teams locally that want a good hard working player.
No horse in race but I think the last poster is clearly the cheating coach....very sensitive about this topic eh?
Wait.... someone has an issue with a U16 kid playing U15, but on that U15 team he is one of the bottom three players on the team ?? Am I reading this right ?
Who would have a problem with that ?
