Re: Coaching Under the Influence

I'd say it's bad form to drink before games and practices of Mites & Squirts but when the get to Peewee Major I'd think it's almost a necessity - those hockey brat kids become obnoxious little turds at that point! So boozebags, please only coach the older kids....and remember, once they get to Midgets any booze that is confiscated in the locker room is rightfully the coaches! Sharing with the parents at the out-of-town tournaments is optional.

Now that marijuana is legal, is it ok to spark up a doobie before, during, or after practice?[/quote
A bong shaped lunch like a hockey stick would be awesome

"Ingrained in the culture?" What percent would you put it at?

I'd put it at less than 5% based on personal experience. Hardly ingrained.

This clown never played hockey growing up and is clueless as to whats really going on. His kid must be sheltered.

Obviously drinking before a game or practice is a no no. No real debate there. Having a beer at a hotel bar or goin out with some parents and kids having a beer is no different than drinking a beer on your grill or on the beach with your kid. Getting fall down drunk and obnoxious is not ok.....whether your a coach or not
Is there a point in there somewhere, beyond stating the obvious, which doesn't really serve a purpose?

Are you saying it is or isn't OK for the coach to grab a pop at a hotel bar? Before? After? I'm not really sure what you're saying...

JESUS...let me say it very slow and in little kid sentences so you can understand

* No drinks before games or practices
* No falling down drunk or being a mess in front of anyone by anyone including parents, coaches, or anybody that's around the kids
* yes, it's ok to be a responsible adult and have a glass of wine or a beer or 4 when the kids are around after games, on the beach, out to dinner...but if those drinks turn you into a drooling fool, then you should drink water.
So, it's OK for you, as a responsible adult, to have a beer or a glass of wine before driving your kid home from practice, but not ever OK for a coach, as a responsible adult, to before practice?

What if has a client lunch or dinner, and the client wants to order a bottle of wine? Should he ***** the deal by ordering a seltzer and making the client feel uncomfortable?

When if he shares a beer with the crew after a tough, hot day at the quarry?

What do they call people that hold others to standards they aren't willing to live up to themselves?

Wait, it'll come to me....

A Beer after a hard day at the quarry? Barney Rubble and Fred Flintstone as hockey dads? Bam Bam is in the box again!

Re: Coaching Under the Influence

A bunch of Morris Buttermakers out there. Getting Drunk or High before a game as a Coach? No wonder the alcohol and drug abuse rates are so high. It is a learn behavior you clowns. You thing you are just teaching them hockey. Just like physical abuse and yell and acting like a clown in the stand. A lot of finger pointing not enough responsibility. That is right, it is always someone else fault. My actions or behaviors cannot be the reason for the problems around me or my environment.
Enjoy your up coming weekend of self indulgence and yell at kids!!!!

Re: Coaching Under the Influence

Thanks for your encouragement and I am fully looking forward to this weekend! Leaf peeping anyone?

Who said anything about getting drunk? Or high? That wasn't what the thread was about.

The question I posed to the santimonious poorkids (I did find the word) is why it's OK for a parent, as a responsible adult, to have an occasional beer - A beer - and not a coach?

These guys get paid practically nothing and have to put up with not only the poorly behaved kids but the unreasonable expectations of parents.

Would I want a coach that gets polluted every day after work, and comes to practice? No. But I'm not going to be unreasonable about it, either.

Dude, if you can't set aside your drinking a few nights a week until after the game/practice then you likely have a problem. How is this debatable? If the coach is a decent responsible guy and happens to have a drink or two at an engagement after work. No problem, not an issue. As a matter of practice, you are drinking just for drinkings sake before practice or a game then you need help. God help you if you get an accident with your kid ( and others) after a few.
