Coaches looking for verbal commitments from players...Should you trust their word???

Verbal commitments are worth about as much as a Venezuelan Bolivar at an Alabama County Fair. Unless your coach sends you a link to formally sign-up your kid, and for you to plunk down a deposit, well then.... you have nothing, friend.

Give them the same excuse they will give you - something came up completely out of the blue, didn't expect it, but have no choice but to do what is best for the organization, errr, your kid, hope he understands.

Way the game is played today. And it's the organizations' collective fault. Even if this coach has been a straight shooter, he's guilty by association.

Great advice...I appreciate it!! Coach is a straight shooter (based on past record) but I feel he may be "phishing" to gauge who may be leaving or looking to leave. The kids that dont commit verbally are either leaving or looking to leave and he wants to avoid last minute surprises...05E level...

When my kid was 10 I have a coach give us a verbal after a tryout - yes, with my kid standing right there. Then we got home and the coach had called to tell us the GM had given the spot way. Nothing he could do, out of his hands, etc.

My kid was devastated.

Pay a deposit beginning of February! Yea right. My kid had verbal commitments from mite minor to peewee. Always got the contract on the first day of tryouts. You know the coach, you know the parents, so it should be say to find out history. Is there a risk?Always.

That's because the kids your coach was recruiting declined or no one showed up at tryouts. For kids the coach really wants to keep, their parents already have that "link" in their email inbox to sign-up and pay the deposit.

"Don’t ever believe a team owner, manager or coach when they tell you your kid is “all set” for next season and is on the team until the contract is signed. There are liars, darn liars and hockey team owners / managers / coaches."

Why don't more people just reference 'The Rules' when in doubt?

My kid is as stud in the EHF Elite. He writes his own contracts.

No lie, when your kid is a beast you dictate the rules.

Very simple....if you're kid is borderline have a backup plan. If you're kid is a stud and parents r wack jobs (gossip, txt coaches, complain about playing time and position) have a backup plan. If you're kid is good and you're not a troublemaker all set.
