Awarding player of the game

I’m coaching my younger boy next year in mites....town hockey...my older boy has gone through to club and I remember his days as a Mite where coaches rewarded one player for every game by letting them wear a special hat/jersey/etc....anyone out there have other ideas how to make some type of fun award program?

Sorry original poster but that's what you get here for leading with your chin

Went to Tag sports decals - had a couple hundred 1/2 inch custom helmet decals. Didnt limit it to one player - best backcheck, best assist best defenseman etc - gave out 3-6 per game - kids loved it- end of the year got a trophy made 40 bucks - gave to the winner with the most helmet stickers - tag sports decals - great to work with - sent in out logo and put on circular decal - came out great. Maybe that could work for you Don’t worry about some of the comments- don’t take personal - some are pretty funny guys but i know your trying to be genuine.

Award is the kids get playing time

Re: Awarding player of the game

Make sure the coach's kids get the award more than any other kid on the team!

Re: Awarding player of the game

You have to decide how you are going to give the award. We had one year when the coach actually gave it to the best player of that particular game. We had 1 very strong line and those 3 won it about 80% of the time, which they deserved, but other kids starting pouting, etc. So you have to decide if its truly going to be for the best player of each game, or is it going to be something you give to each kid at least a few times of the year..to keep it even. It can be a huge moral boost but it also lead to much unneeded drama.

Waste of time, let them play, then go home. Don't bother, you will end up ******* off some stupid parents too.
You will find 4 kids on the team getting it all the time and then you will find yourself trying to find excuses to giving it to the benders.
Just don't do it!
